Pitch Club met Tuesday, June 28, at Martha’s Bed and Breakfast in Fairfax. Those present were Norma Bradfield, Martha Shaffer, Vickie Smith, Janell McQuinn, Merylan Lowrey, Deb Johnson (Rock Port) and subs Debbie Johnson (Fairfax) and Twilla Clark. Pam Cooper and Sharon Smith were unable to attend this week. We are hopeful to see both of them again soon!

After six games of play, high score went to Janell McQuinn, second high to Vickie Smith, and low scorer was Norma Bradfield. Norma didn’t care because she had good news – that her grandson was finally on his way home! We were so glad to hear of his final departure from overseas happening as we spoke and hope to see Eric in Fairfax sometime soon (most likely visiting grandma)!

A festive July 4th angel food cake, covered in strawberries with Cool Whip to top it off, was served by hostess, Merylan Lowrey, and it was delicious! It became the topic of discussion: homemade cakes vs. box cake mixes. Most admitted to using box mixes most of the time, but on occasion would try one homemade. Amy Sefrit and Alice Kemerling both were recognized and given private kudos for the incredible chocolate angel food cake (made from scratch!) that they share in the community on special occasions.

We held a brief class on morel mushrooms 101 as the experienced hunters in the crew shared the wheres and hows with those of us who had never gone seeking them.

As usual, our conversation jumps from one topic to another: grandchildren, old time activities vs. laptop games, vacations, and past memories of events that had a large impact on each of us like train rides, camping and hiking trips, and we even had a bit of baby name etiquette!

The weather outside was delightful and so was the company inside.
