The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met August 17, 2022, at Tarkio High School. The tax rate hearing was called to order by President Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. Board members who were in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Brooke Vette, Heather Olson, Josh Wright, Sam Hannah and Chris Yates. Others in attendance were: board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Tarkio R-I Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio High School Principal Nick Kemerling, Tarkio R-I teachers and staff members Deyton Thom-son, Markie Sundermann, Nikki Parshall, Brooke Walton, Blu Dow, Jennifer Peregrine and Dallas Prather.

Carrie Livengood presented the tax rate. Board members voted to set the total tax rate at $3.8041 with $1.00 put in fund 4 for Capital Projects and 2.8041 run in Fund 1 Incidental. The tax rate hearing adjourned at 7:04 p.m.

President Garrett Wood called the regular meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The consent agenda and district obligations were approved.

A TAC report was shared with the board.

Elementary Principal Kari Taylor gave a report on the beginning of the school year.  Teachers have started back and are excited to be here. Right now, enrollment is: preschool, 20, kindergarten, 22, first grade, 22, second grade, 26, third grade, 22, fourth grade, 35, and fifth grade, 20.

As Special Education Director, Mrs. Taylor reported that the district has two new special education teachers at the high school. All three teachers are busy working on schedules for the students.

High School Principal Nick Kemerling gave a report on the new year for high school. Teachers had their first day back. Fall sports have began and numbers are looking great. He reported that the summer volleyball league went great, as well as the shootouts for basketball.

Superintendent Carrie Livengood gave a financial report for July ending balances that include a bank reconciliation, general ledger for the month of July and a report indicating there is a definite upward trend in balances for the end of July.  Mrs. Livengood reported that Veregy will be here September 13, 2022, to go over HVAC units with the administration and board.

Board members voted to have Pat Athen put treads on the stairs leading to the gym at the TAC.

The board approved payment for summer activities.

Michelle Navin and Amanda Boomgaarn were approved as  special education paras for the 2022-23 school year.

The board members also voted to approve the substitute list as presented.

Board members approved the tuition rate at $4,500 a year and $250 for each additional student in the family.

The board voted to approve the bus routes as presented.

They also approved the dyslexia plan as presented.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, Record and vote at 7:58 p.m.

The meeting came out of closed session and adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
