The Friday night lights are back with the first game of the season as Rock Port played the DeKalb Tigers.

Rock Port won the toss and elected to receive the ball. Aidan Burke was deep to receive the kick-off and returned it to midfield to start the game.

The Jays would get off to a slow start as they were only able to move the ball to the Tiger 25 yard line before turning it over on downs. DeKalb would run eight plays before breaking a long run for six points. These six points would be the only points scored in the first quarter.

Things started to click for the offense at the start of the second quarter. Two plays in, quarterback Aidan Burke ran for 45 yards on a keeper to put the Jays on the board. Runningback Micah Makings would be next, giving the Jays the lead on a 12 yard run. Following a fumble by the Tigers, runningback Phillip Herron would punch it in for six and the two point conversion making the score 20 – 6.

With the Tigers starting midfield, linebacker Phillip Herron would come up big with an interception and return for a touchdown. Micah Makings would expand the lead with another hard run. Rock Port’s defense managed to keep the Tigers out of the end zone with the exception of one score in the first and one late in the second. The halftime score was 44-12.

Coming out of halftime the Jays would put 32 more points on the board to give Rock Port the win 74-20.

The Blue Jays travel to Hopkins this week to take on Platte Valley.
