Over the summer, members of the Tarkio FFA Chapter attended both the Missouri State Fair and the Atchison County Fair.

During the Atchison County Fair, in the poultry show, Carter Wennihan show-ed chickens, winning Champ-ion Large Chicken, and Jozee Eaton showed her duck and two chickens. This was the first show of the fair. The next morning, Thursday the 21st, Brooklyn Wennihan, Jillian Hannah, Josie King, Lizzie Schlueter, Aaron Schlueter,  Abbie Harms, and Gabe Harms came to show hogs. They showed in the breeding and market shows, showing a total of 20 pigs in the fair. Brooklyn Wennihan was awarded Champion Pen of Three with her market hogs, and Josie King won Reserve Champion Market Gilt. Friday morning in the cattle show, Lizzie Schlueter and Josie King both showed. Josie showed a heifer and steer in the market show and Lizzie Schlueter showed her bucket calf. Friday night each FFA and 4-H member showed one animal in the auction.

On August 14-16, both Josie King and Brooklyn Wenihann showed pigs in the Missouri State Fair. Brooklyn’s spotted gilt got third in her class in the FFA and open shows and her Poland China got first in FFA and open classes, also making champion drive both days. Josie’s pig placed eighth in the FFA Crossbred Gilt Show.  Her gilt placed second place in the open show and into the grand drive. Josie King also showed cattle in the market heifer and market steer divisions placing third and fourth respectively.

The Tarkio FFA members held their first meeting of the year August 31 at the Tarkio Ag Shop. The chapter had 33 members attend the meeting, where they had a business meeting along with a cookout and yard games. The chapter has grown a lot in the past two years with a projected membership of 37 members, which is 15 more than two years ago. The annual fruit sales began September 1 and they will be selling until September 22.
