October 3, 1947
• Nathan Ginter, who about six months ago bought the Don Friday shoe repair shop, has sold the shop to Winfred Cooper, Jr. of Kansas City, who takes possession next Monday. Ginter will return to King City, Missouri.
• The Clifton Warehouse, which was bought some time ago by Don Husing, was moved the first of the week to its new location in Sickler’s addition, where Husing had a basement and foundation waiting. The building was cut in two, one section much larger than the other, and moved on wheels with a tractor.
• Rock Port’s Boy Scouts, who operated a refreshment stand at the county fair, did well on their enterprise. They raised $158.15.
• Emil Tiemeyer’s sale of 40 boars and 30 gilts of Poland China hogs will be Friday, October 10.
September 28, 1972
• Heirs of Mary B. Hilger sold their 200 acre bottom farm at public auction September 19 at $90,400. Dick Payne, Hamburg, Iowa, was the purchaser at $452 per acre.
• Fairfax News – Terry Massie, son of Mrs. Lucy Massie, has been named to one of the management posts of Worlds of Fun recreation centers, which is to open near Kansas City next spring. He will be manager of sales and special promotions.
• I-29 paving was completed Tuesday about 2:00 p.m. for the 13.1 miles of four-lane concrete 22 feet wide by Tobin Construction Co., Kansas City. The four million dollar pavement project began June 16. The company is now finishing up work on the two weigh stations and working on the shoulders.
• Taking pictures alongside the road may be alright in most cases, but when you’re standing next to a large marijuana plant, officers tend to become suspicious. Two young men from Tennessee were fined when an officer stopped to investigate and found two pounds of freshly picked marijuana leaves in their car.
• A 1968 International tractor-trailer, driven by a man from Troy, hit a calf on September 23 at 2:45 a.m. on U.S. 275, five miles north of Rock Port. The calf, belonging to Donald and Orville Wolf, was standing in the roadway.

• The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #49 met for installation of officers at a noon luncheon at Rock Port Trail Boss Tuesday, September 16. Officers installed include: Zella Davis, president; Mary Sweeton, 1st president; Lois Bennington, 2nd president; Dorothy Brought, secretary/treasurer; Elizabeth Wintjen, chaplain; Lois Gaines, historian; and Violet Jones, Sergeant-at-Arms.
• Pleasant View Nursing Home acknowledged the Dietary Department for their services during Dietary Services Workers Week September 21-27. They are Judy Catlett (13 years), Raylene Kish (11 years), LaVerna Kennel (10 years), Ruby Schramm (8 years), Haley Haynes (6 months), and Tracey Hughes (5 months).
• The Ralph Greer American Legion and Auxiliary Pancake and Sausage Feed will be Friday, October 24, at the Memorial Building in Rock Port. The money raised is used for a scholarship, which takes on a bit more significance this year as the group has chosen to name the scholarship the American Legion/Auxiliary Adam Henry Lee Laumann Memorial Scholarship. Lee was an active member for 73 years.
• The Rock Port Alumni Band will be playing Saturday, October 11, at the Rock Port homecoming game against Bishop Hogan. Please get out your old instrument and blow the cobwebs out.
