October 31, 1947
• The Rev. Harold M. Parker, Jr., assumes the pulpits of the English Grove Presbyterian Church and the Fairfax Presbyterian Church Sunday, November 2.
• Mrs. Jerry Davis and Mrs. Roy Wilson have opened a doughnut and coffee shop in the building just east of the Pearce Produce office, formerly occupied by Shirley’s Beauty Shop.
• Dean Ray, who has been in the Navy for the past two years, will start home to the States October 31. He will go from Yokosuka to Tsingtao, China, to Shanghai, to Manila, to Subic, to Guam, to Pearl Harbor, and then to San Francisco where he will be given his discharge papers.
• Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Olson of Villisca, Iowa, have leased the Jorgensen Cafe and will take over the management of the business November 1.
• Communism in America was the topic at Sorosis Monday. Roll call was answered by “A Communistic Incident.”
• John Flanagan was issued a private pilot’s license at the Maryville municipal airport Saturday. John had a total of 46 hours, when only 35 hours are required.
November 3, 1972
• The “Trick or Treat for UNICEF” campaign in Fairfax raised a total of $137.
• The October Cub Scout meeting was held Thursday night at the Methodist Church using the theme “Discovery of America.” Activities for October included a field trip to the outdoor Scout grounds, visiting the Mule Barn Museum, a Halloween party, and making pumpkin favors to take to the rest home patients in Rock Port.
• Some 60 boys and girls registered for the Goblin parade in Fairfax Tuesday evening despite the damp and chilly weather. Prizes were given and everyone was treated to cider and donuts courtesy of The Exchange Bank.
• In a game featuring the number one defense and the number one offense in the 275 Conference, the defense prevailed as the Fairfax Bulldogs stopped the Tarkio Indians and their 17 game winning streak. The final score was 21-12 as the Bulldogs scored all their points in the first half.
October 30, 1997
• Fairfax Baptist Church will be celebrating Rally Day ’97 Sunday, November 2. Dr. Mark T. Coppenger, president of Midwestern Baptist Seminary and key leader among Southern Baptists, will be the guest speaker.
• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Turnips seem to be plentiful. Junior Hawkins brought sacks to church for everyone who wanted some. They were big! Rev. Bash’s mother-in-law took hers to Denver, Colorado, to enjoy.” “Thought for the day… ‘The quickest way to get a lot of undivided attention is to make a mistake.’”
• The Fairfax Lady Bulldogs Volleyball Team went undefeated in the 275 Conference to win the title. Their season record stands at 20-2-2. With their 20th win, they are now eligible to have their picture displayed in the hallway.
