Katherine C. Erdman, daughter of Ralph and Donna (Shaw) Logan, was born at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri, on July 21, 1947. Katherine passed away October 17, 2022, at North Kansas City Hospital, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 75.
Katherine attended Tarkio schools and graduated from Tarkio High School in 1964. Katherine’s faith journey began at the United Methodist Church, Tarkio, with her baptism on December 28, 1947, and membership on March 26, 1961. As an adult, she and her family attended First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, Missouri. There she taught Sunday school and was active in the Women’s Circle. Later, the family attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri.
Katherine was united in marriage to William “Bill” Erdman on September 5, 1964, at McMurry Methodist Church, Kansas City. Together they built their farming business and welcomed a son, Jonathan Stacey, and a daughter, Melissa Arianne, to complete their family.
Katherine was active as a leader of the Soaring Eagles 4-H Club, assisted with Girl Scouts, taught art/craft classes, and drove a school bus at the elementary school, all in Westboro. She was a fabulous seamstress and was often called upon by others in the community to complete sewing projects or clothing alterations. Katherine enjoyed inviting friends to dinners that she prepared and spending the evening playing Rummikub.
In 2006, the couple retired after 50 years of farming. Katherine and Bill enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad. Before COVID, they spent 38 winters on the island of Maui. Katherine was involved in many ways with the church family there, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School.
Katherine’s first priority was always family and she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother. One of Katherine’s greatest joys in life was her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her “kiddles” – baking, hosting tea parties, making crafts, having adventures on the farm, and taking family trips. She was thrilled when moving to Kansas City allowed her to attend more of the grandkids’ sporting events and school activities.
Katherine loved to create and was frequently starting new projects or crafts to add to her long-time passion of quilting. Generally, these projects were made to be given to other people or charities. She crocheted hundreds of scarves for homeless shelters and for years, she would sew over 60 dresses and help fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child, as organized by their Branson church, Peace Lutheran. She was involved in the Silver Saints and helped with Bible school at her church home in Liberty, Missouri, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. Katherine recently became a frequent volunteer at Hillcrest Hope Thrift Store in Liberty. She so enjoyed organizing all the fabrics and craft items donated to the store.
Katherine is survived by: daughter, Melissa Graybill and husband, Scott; grandson, Logan Lee Graybill; granddaughters, Layke Annalise Graybill and Emerson Katherine Graybill; sister, Samantha McBride and husband, Bryce; uncle, Dan Shaw; and countless friends. Preceding Katherine to heaven were her parents, Ralph and Donna Logan; husband of 57 years, Bill Erdman; brother, Robert Logan; and son, Jonathan Stacey.
