November 14, 1947
• Five generations were able to take a picture at a family gathering in Westboro. The youngest member of the group, 10-month-old William Sims Irwin, met the oldest member of the group, his 93-year-old great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Eva Tourtelotte of Westboro. Mrs. Tourtelotte was born in Wisconsin and moved to Missouri soon after her marriage to her late husband, W.C. Tourtelotte. They were among the first settlers in northwest Missouri, Westboro.
• N. H. McClary suffered second degree burns to his hands Sunday when he was repairing a radiator of a hot water system in his home.
• Mr. and Mrs. Silas Summers have purchased from Fred Martin the residence property at 708 Maple Street and will take possession March 1.
• Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sonnenberg announce the adoption of Kathy Elaine, who arrived at their home here Friday, November 7. The baby is two months old. Mrs. Sonnenberg is the former Nora O’Riley.
November 16, 1972
• Miss Mary E. Peters has been named as Director of Information Services at Tarkio College. Miss Peters is a 1972 graduate of the college with a major in drama.
• The 18th annual Atchison County Band Day will be held Tuesday, November 21, at Rock Port. Band students from the three county high schools will give a mass concert that evening with musical numbers including a traditional Sousa march, Chant and Jubilo by McBeth, Highlights from Charlie Brown, and a rock number “Dry Bones.” Guest director will be Roger Mason, who is the band director at Higginsville, Missouri.
• Christmas card scenery resulted from the heavy wet snowfall which ended Monday night. The first storm of the winter was accompanied by broken power lines and telephone lines all over the area along with traffic problems as vehicles slid off across most highways and roads. Cold temps Wednesday morning turned the mounds of melting snow into hazardous ice. A slight skiff of snow served to intensify the slippery situation.
• The Tarkio FFA/FHA Barnwarming was held Friday, November 10, at the Tarkio Community Building. Kerry Sue Mincer was crowned FHA Queen and Scott Campbell was crowned FFA King.
• Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Freeman of Tarkio will observe their 50th wedding anniversary November 30 at an open house in the Fireside Room of the First National Bank.

• The Tarkio Junior High had their own competition in the Red Ribbon Week Food Drive. A total of 287 cans were donated by the 7th and 8th graders. The competition resulted in a tie between Mrs. Ricks’ and Mr. Palmeiro’s TAs so they both enjoyed a donut party.
• Gertrude Lash of Tarkio will celebrate her 90th birthday November 21 with a family gathering. She was born in Morrowville, Kansas, to Russell J. and Maimie (Guthrie) Smith on November 21, 1907.
• William Jewell College senior runningback and Tarkio High School graduate Eric Levings has rushed for 1,028 yards this football season, becoming the first player at William Jewell to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season since David Cunningham in 1980.
