November 28, 1947
• Miss Mary Reeves, a former resident of Tarkio and Harvard graduate, recently was appointed by the Children’s Bureau in Washington, D.C., to a new position as area nutrition consultant for 17 midwestern states, including Missouri.
• Harold Hutchison, son of Professor and Mrs. C.T. Hutchison, has returned to the United States from Latakia, Syria, where the family is residing. The Hutchisons are former Tarkio residents and the professor was a member of the Tarkio College faculty.
• Cpl. Jack Breazile and his wife, the former Miss Charlotte Schweiger of Vienna, Austria, arrived in Tarkio November 17, where they plan to make their home. Cpl. Breazile met his wife in Bad Hall, Austria, where she was employed by the U.S. Government, acting as interpreter and typist following the occupation of that city by U.S. troops.

• Lighted tapers in multibranch candelabra and bouquets of white mums with baby’s breath, formed the altar setting for the marriage of Mrs. Joyce Hedrick and Bill Springer at the Fairfax Baptist Church Friday, November 24. Given in marriage by her son, Curtis, the bride chose a street-length dress of cerise polyester with overblouse of tapestry print.
• First National Teller Tells: “There is a scarcity of farmers in the bank this morning (Tuesday). Those who have their crops out are probably hunting and those who have beans and corn in the field find that the frozen ground will make for some fast work to beat the noon time thaw. It is a longtime accepted fact that in Missouri, it is best to not count your crops until they are in the bank and this year proves the point beyond doubt.”
• Boom trucks furnished by United Telephone Co. and the Light and Power Co. and crews from both and Peoples Natural Gas and Cypress Cable TV worked this week to install decorations in the business district. The Christmas tree in the middle of the street is also in place.
• Dr. Roy McIntosh, Tarkio Mayor, visited the 5th year class at the elementary school to discuss city government.
• Cub Scouts of Pack 88 held the annual Pinewood Derby Monday night. Trophy winners were: Danny Vietze (3rd), Mike Vette (2nd), and Dean Ratliff (1st).
November 27, 1997
• Over 300 people attended the Thanksgiving dinner at Community Care of America in Tarkio Friday, November 21.
• The staff at the Mercantile Bank of Northwest Missouri, Tarkio, has decided to forego the annual staff gift exchange and will donate food items to the Tarkio Food Pantry instead. Area residents are also invited to bring food items to the bank.
• Hardin C. Cox, President/Agent of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Rock Port, Missouri, was the 1997 recipient of the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Companies “Hall of Fame” award.
• A benefit dinner was held November 19 in Westboro, Missouri, at the United Methodist Church. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Wendell Johnson family, who recently lost their home to a fire.
