Coach’s gift

Daniel Lesher presented Coach Kameron Schieffer with photos and signatures of the state qualifying team members.

 

The 2022 East Atchison Boys’ and Girls’ high school cross country teams were recently honored at a fall awards banquet. Varsity letters were given out and individuals were recognized for their outstanding achievements this season. Coach Kameron Schieffer also recognized the members of the summer running club.

Both East Atchison teams made it all the way to state with the girls’ team placing third at Districts and the boys’ team placing second. Five of the seven Wolf runners also medaled individually, earning All-District honors (Cole Anderson, Daniel Lesher, Ian Stepp, Clayton Vernon, and Cowen O’Riley). Four of the six Lady Wolves runners also medaled individually, earning All-District honors (Jayla Irvine, Brooklyn Wennihan, Kierra McDonald, and Alexis Bywater). This is the first time East Atchison has had a cross country team qualify for state. Lady Wolf Jayla Irvine earned a state medal with her 23rd place finish and the Lady Wolves finished in 10th place as a team in a field of 15 teams. The EA Wolves team finished in 12th place out of 16 teams.

Individual honors were presented to: Varsity boy letter winners – Daniel Lesher, Ian Stepp, Cowen O’Riley, Cole Anderson, Clayton Vernon, Quin Staten, and Jarrod Jamison; Varsity girl letter winners – Kierra McDonald, Brooklyn Wennihan, Emmy Laur, Alexis Bywater, Kendal Straub, and Jayla Irvine; participation honors – Braiden Larson, Kendall Kingery, Connor Morton, Bryon Ohlensehlen, and Isaac Vette; 100+ mile runners – Emmy Laur (116), Quin Staten (137), Bella Bywater (Jr. High)(154), Ian Stepp (156), and Cowen O’Riley (165); 200+ mile runners – Alexis Bywater (201), Cole Anderson (224), and Daniel Lesher (245); Most Improved Girl – Emmy Laur with a 3:31 minute improvement for the season; Most Improved Boy – Bryon Ohlensehlen with a 5:08 minute improvement for the season; and Most Valuable Player – Senior Daniel Lesher.

To wrap up the evening, Daniel Lesher presented Coach Schieffer with a signed picture of the 2022 Cross Country High School State qualifiers.
