The Fairfax Band and Music Boosters organization is working hard to help support the Fairfax R-3 band and music education program. Students have the option to begin band in the fifth grade and are able to continue that participation through their senior year. Historically, between repairs for school-owned instruments, sheet music and music education costs, the current music education budget provided by the school is completely utilized. The pandemic was hard on student activities and an intermittent decline in participation was noted. At this time however, the local band program is rallying and there is a new need for instruments for beginning band students.

The band boosters strive to make sure that any student who has the passion and desire to participate in band has an instrument to use. In addition to seeking financial contributions for the purchase of new instruments and maintaining the school owned instruments already utilized by the school’s advanced band members, the boosters are seeking a used instrument you may have hiding in the closet. Boosters will work to refurbish and save all the instruments they can so that the local music and band programs can benefit from them. Refurbishing instruments is not inexpensive, but often cheaper than purchasing new ones. The band boosters are collaborating with the Fairfax music program to ensure band is an option for any student with the passion and desire. It’s the boosters’ desire to make sure that there is not a financial barrier to student band participation.
