February 13, 1948
• Carl Kish, Manhattan, Kansas, freshman in agriculture administration at Kansas State College and son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy C. Kish of Rock Port, will appear in George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” which is to be presented under the auspices of the Kansas State Players in March.
• L.H. Fuelling of Tarkio passed away February 5, one day before his 69th birthday. Louis Henry Fuelling was born in Wulften, province of Hanover, Germany, February 6, 1879. When he was four years of age, he came with his parents and their family to Atchison County, where he has lived ever since. Mr. Fuelling was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church since its organization in 1886.
• Mrs. Janna Gerdes of Langdon, one of the oldest residents of the county, observed her 91st birthday January 30th. She is a native of Germany and came to the United States alone during her girlhood.
• The trucking firm of Rupe & Phelps (H.Y. Rupe and Clyde Phelps) has dissolved partnership and the business will be continued by Rupe.
February 8, 1973
• Blue Jay Corner – It’s a no no when: you run your fastest to get to lunch; when you take the day off from school; when you make eyes at a boy and he is sitting next to his girl; and when you make fun of a teacher and he is standing behind you.
• Farmers and friends of the Rock Port area are invited to a chili-beer supper February 16 at the Memorial Building in Rock Port. As the Chamber says in their advertisement: “You’ve been feeding us all year. Now it’s your turn.”
• The Rock Port R-2 schools missed one more day of school because of the snow and ice on February 7. This brings the total of days missed up to seven. If the snow days continue to add up, the students and teachers may be going to school in July.

• Jerry Perry, an employee of Rock Port Municipal Utilities for 21 years, recently earned an “A” license in water treatment, the highest attainable certification from the Department of Natural Resources.
• Sixty-eight donors gave a life-saving donation at the Community Blood Drive Thursday, January 29, at the Rock Port United Methodist Church.
• Luke Christians has been chosen as this month’s Optimist Teenager of the Month. Luke is the son of Dennis and Bev Christians of Rock Port.
• Major Scott Chamberlain of the United States Army/Engineering sent in an update on his time since deployed to Sarajevo.
• Bobby Wallace and Jennifer Welch walked down the aisle and said “I do” in a mock wedding as part of Mrs. Mulvania’s family living class. For the past three years, students have been learning about the steps that have to be taken to be wed.
• James Fentiman threw 12 strikes in a row for a perfect 300 game at Blue Jay Bowl January 28 during the Wednesday Night Men’s League. James will receive recognition from The American Bowling Congress with a ring and patch.
• For the second month in a row, Delmas Howell missed out on winning $100 by not attending the Ralph Greer #49 American Legion meeting.
