The Allen-Schiffern American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 held a meeting on March 13, 2023, with eight members attending. President Linda Kaye Payton opened the meeting. Pearl Burns gave the opening prayer and all members recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag followed by reciting the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary.
The minutes of the last meeting were read by Secretary Barb Hines and approved as read. The financial report was given by Treasurer Sheridan Mires and approved.
Linda Kaye and Judy G. gave a quick report on the District meeting held in Parnell on March 4, 2023.
Membership was discussed. There are members who need to return their dues to Barb Hines.
Members went over the dates and times of the spring rummage sale which is set for April 21-22, 2023. Donation take-in will be April 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, and 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No donations will be accepted on April 20 to allow time for unpacking and organizing. Everyone is asked to bring your donations early! Please do not donate old computers/TVs or tires. For more information, contact KC Hines, rummage sale chairperson, at 660-623-9297.
A tentative date has been set for the annual County Government Day at the Atchison County Courthouse in Rock Port. That date is March 21. If this is a go members will get together on March 20 at 4:00 p.m. to make the sandwiches, vegetable and fruit bags, and chips.
Linda Kaye discussed starting up a monthly meeting with the junior auxiliary members. She will contact a parent of these girls to get things set up. She will be asking senior members for help as needed.
Members turned in hours and expenses they had for the past year.
There was no further business. Pearl said a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned by Linda Kaye.
The next meeting will be Monday, April 10, 2023 at 5:30 p.m.
