April 23, 1948
• The pupils of Miss Colleen Ammons will be holding a dance recital Wednesday, April 28, at the Memorial Building. Part 1 will be the Doll Shop Fantasy and Part 2 will be Show Business.
• Atchison County will have seen the last of its eight-month rural schools with the close of the current term. This year there was only one school of eight months – New Hope – with Miss Mabel Waugh as teacher. So far as known, this will be the first time in school history of Atchison County that there will be no schools of less than nine months’ duration.
• Work is to start immediately on the construction of a building on Highway No. 275 just west of the Nickerson building for the occupancy of Corporal Cohen with a super market. His downtown store in the Strickland building, which carries surplus army goods and other merchandise, will be closed out.
• The first anniversary of the Nickerson organization’s occupancy of its large and modern business house on Highway No. 275 was celebrated last week with an open house, which attracted more than 1,000 persons. Talent from radio station KMA in Shenandoah and the Old Storekeeper, St. Joseph radio figure, were on the program.
April 19, 1973
• Thirty students from the mechanical drawing and shop classes of the industrial arts department in Rock Port went to Kansas City April 11 to tour the Leeds General Motors Assembly Plant and ECPI (Electronic Computer Programming Institute).
• The mystery of the gravestones found in the bank of Rock Creek has been solved. Milam Hedgpeth, a lifelong resident of Rock Port, a brother of Pete Hedgpeth and an uncle of the late Jimmie Hedgpeth, was in the tombstone business at one time. He had apparently sold stones to people who were replacing old or damaged stones, and discarding the old ones.
• The Citizens Insurance Agency, located in the Citizens Bank, Rock Port, has reorganized and incorporated under the name of Rock Port Insurance and Realty Company.
• A grand opening of the Triple T Drive-In is planned for April 20. They are open from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day except Monday. The business is located at the west edge of Rock Port on U.S. 136.
April 16, 1998
• StarLab – McDonald’s Mission to the Stars – is a portable planetarium that guides students on an exploration of stars and space. StarLab landed at Rock Port schools on April 9. Bob and Sue Koch are the owners of the local McDonald’s and are sponsoring the program at Rock Port.
• Thirty-six Rock Port fifth grade students participated in a Design-a-Dollar poster contest in conjunction with their Dollar & Cents program. The posters were judged by Citizens Bank & Trust employees and prizes were donated by local merchants and the bank. Winners were Thomas Herron (1st), Micah Meyerkorth (2nd), and Jade Hughes (3rd).

• Leo Erdman brought a cluster of 19 morel mushrooms into the office April 13. Leo’s mushroom huntin’ dog was camera shy, but deserves much of the credit.
