May 21, 1948
• Professor C. H. Pollock will leave in June for Liverpool, England. He will be spending the summer traveling in Europe. Prof. Pollock was honored with the senior cane at Tarkio College May 4.
• B.F. King of the King Furniture Store had a freak accident with his International pickup Wednesday morning while he was a attempting to drive a bull up a dike road at the Dr. S.J. Peterson farm. The bull turned suddenly and King jumped out to head him off. The vehicle took a 12 to 14 foot drop into the river. The truck fell in only three feet of water and no damage was done.
• Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Lindsay have purchased the former H.E. Ewing property and expect to move there soon from the downstairs apartment of the former music conservatory at Tarkio College.
• Carl Nurski, music instructor here this past year, will work toward his master’s degree in music next year at Oberlin Music Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio.
• An addition of $2,000 in equipment in the projection booth at Tarkio Theater, including valuable new light tubes and other innovations, has greatly improved the viewing pleasure of the audience, especially those watching the technicolor pictures.
May 24, 1973
• The Westboro Alumni Banquet was held May 19 at the Westboro School. There were 150 people in attendance.
• Fred Church and the Spirituals, a gospel singing group, will be performing at Tarkio Assembly of God Church Sunday, May 27.
• Nu Sigma members held a reception for Tarkio High School senior girls and their mothers May 10 in the Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The program was a style show featuring styles from the 1930s to the present.
• This issue marks the 90th year of continuous publication for the Tarkio Avalanche. The first issue of the Avalanche was published August 30, 1884, by Mr. Casler. He is the man who bought the first lot and built the first shack in town and the man who built Clifton House.

• In conjunction with National Nursing Home Week, Community Care of Tarkio hosted a watermelon feed on Thursday, May 14. Girl Scout Troop 296 visited the nursing home May 12 and planted flowers, adopted a grandparent, and decorated the sidewalk with sidewalk chalk.
• Tarkio Assembly of God Church Pastor Mark Rittermeyer vowed to help three ladies in the church raise funds for their mission trip. He had people donate to shave his head or not to shave his head. More funds came in for shaving it off and he kept his promise. Rob Smith, Youth Director, decided to stand by his pastor and he, too, shaved his head.
• The thunderstorm that hit Tarkio and the surrounding communities May 15 produced high winds that downed limbs onto power lines, causing a power outage. Kelley and Amy Herron’s home, located in the northern corner of Atchison County, was destroyed by the winds. A tree came through the house and part of their roof is missing. The living room addition is now off its foundation. Glass from the blown windows is embedded in the walls. A picnic table also destroyed Kelley’s truck.
• Thirty seniors received diplomas May 17 at Tarkio High School’s graduation ceremony.
