• Billy Walker has discovered that baseball can be a dangerous game. At the picnic for fifth and sixth graders at Dotham, the kids were playing baseball. Marion Ray took a swing and the bat slipped out of his hands, hitting catcher Billy in the mouth and knocking out eight teeth.
• PFC. George W. Gubser sailed May 5 to Tokyo, Japan, where he expects to serve the next 18 months of his enlistment in the Army Air Forces. He has served 18 months at Spokane Air Field in Spokane, Washington.
• Frank Stouffer has been confined to his bed for several weeks with undulant fever. Last Wednesday, a number of his friends came with plows and tractors and put 60 acres of his land in shape for planting.
• Boy Scouts will be hiking out from the Fairfax school house May 25 for some testing on ranks.
• Lonnie R. Miles has been granted a cash award by Trans World Airlines for a money-saving suggestion of installing a bracket to prevent vibration and breakage of a panel light on the instrument board of DC-3 planes. Mr. Miles is employed in the radio and electric shop at TWA’s huge overhaul base at Fairfax Airport in Kansas City, Kansas.

• A crew of men, as well as Boy Scouts, with the help of Sly Lumber’s truck and driver, helped clean up trees and limbs in the park. Mrs. Bill Abbott prepared lunch for the boys and Matt Straub furnished drinks.
• Four hundred people attended the Fairfax High School Alumni Banquet. Special recognition was given to the class of 1923. Miss Beulah Hunter (class of 1905) and Mrs. Bess Fellows (class of 1913) had the distinction of being the senior alumnae. Miss Hunter holds a near-perfect attendance record since the organization was established.
• Two daily Vacation Bible Schools operating in Fairfax this week have a total enrollment of 165 pupils and teachers participating.
• The board of directors of Fairfax Community Hospital announced the employment of Mrs. Gertrude Wright as acting administrator. Roger VanderBoom, administrator for two years, tendered his resignation May 7.
• Mrs. Eva Cofer retired from Fairfax Elementary. She received a citation from Fairfax R-3 Board President Charles Norton at the annual awards program.

• Lisa Southard and Tony Mitchell would like to announce their engagement and upcoming marriage. Lisa is employed by Nebraska Public Power District at Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska, and Tony is employed by Auburn Consolidated Industries, Inc. in Auburn, Nebraska. The couple will marry in Fairfax June 27.
• Air Force ROTC Cadet Jacob Salmond, son of Jim and Mary Salmond of Fairfax, was recently awarded the ROTC physical fitness ribbon for maintaining an exemplary level of physical fitness. Salmond is a junior at MU, majoring in civil engineering.
• Robin Gilbert of Fairfax was recently named Parent of the Year from the northwest district.
• The Fairfax Alumni Banquet was attended by 275 people Friday, May 15. The theme was The Magical Kingdom of Alumni. Master of ceremonies was Morris Ray. Twelve seniors dressed in Disney garb were initiated. Daniel Smith, who traveled from Costa Rica, was the alum who traveled the farthest.
