Emily (Bremer) Heaton, a 2016 graduate of Rock Port High School, graduated from Peru State College in May 2020 with a double major in Biochemistry and Disease & Human Health. That summer she married Branson Heaton at the Denver, Colorado, Botanical Gardens. Emily is currently a third year PhD student in the Immunology, Pathology, and Infectious Disease program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, conducting biomedical research on host-pathogen interactions during Coxiella burnettii infections. She plans to seek employment in either Research & Development or Regulatory Affairs in government and/or industry sectors after earning her PhD.
