He said, “This year’s recipient never technically taught in a classroom here at Rock Port. But he was definitely an educator. Beyond the countless times that he was willing to sub when we were in a pinch, he definitely taught me a thing or two about what it takes to be a leader in a school.
“Unfortunately for him our offices are only a few feet apart and I have often found myself seeking advice on school and regular life decisions. I’d be lying if I said we saw eye-to-eye on every single topic but as his time as my boss over the last six years, I am undoubtedly a better person and educator because of the time we have spent together.
“I’m not going to drag this out any more, because I know he’s going to want to take his mom out to lunch after this. The 2023 Educator of the Year is going to a truly great man that I am lucky to call my friend. This year’s winner is Dr. Ethan Sickels.”
