The Rock Port High School Spring Athletic Banquet was held May 30, 2023.
Shawn Shineman recognized members of the boys’ golf team. Letter winners were Brecken Kelly, Jacobi Hogue, Ozey Hurst, Carter Gebhards (state qualifier), Tarver Muntz, Ryland Garst, Malachi Skillen, Aricin Weber (state qualifier), and Tayden Cook (state qualifier). Others on the team were Micah Makings, Dereck Dush, Reed Miller, Seth Gubser, and Spencer Newbanks
Becky Meyerkorth presented awards to members of the girls’ track team. Letter winners were: Jacoby Driskell, Ella Meyerkorth, Emma Teten, Norah Watkins, and Cali Driskell, first year; Jayme McEnaney, Avery Meyerkorth, Lilly Pankau, and Payten Shrader, second year; Rylee Jenkins, Mikayla Makings, Kylie Jo Nuckolls, and Addy Maifeld, third year.
Six girls went to state, with four competing and two alternates. The four competing girls earned enough points as a team to get fourth place overall, out of 72 teams, at the state meet.
Becky noted a few names were added to the leader board this year. No school records were broken, but the girls were close on some of them. The following girls are now on the list for the top five all-time leaders for Rock Port girls’ track in these events:
• Discus – Rylee Jenkins, back-to-back state champ, still reigns at #1 on the Rock Port leader board.
• Javelin – Rylee Jenkins, third; Addison Maifeld, fifth
• Pole Vault – Payten Shrader, fourth
• 4×800 Relay – Ella Meyerkorth, Rylee Jenkins, Norah Watkins, Avery Meyerkorth, second
• 100 Hurdles – Ella Meyerkorth, second
• 300 Hurdles – Ella Meyerkorth, fifth
• 800m Run – Avery Meyerkorth, second
• 1600m Run – Norah Watkins, fifth
• 3200m Run – Norah Watkins, second
The following awards were decided on by a team vote: Most Promising Freshman, Norah Watkins; MPV in Field Events, Rylee Jenkins; MVP in Running Events, Avery Meyerkorth.
Norah Watkins received an award for Top Point Scorer.
Thomas Herron presented letters to the entire boys’ track team. Members of the track team were Phillip Herron, Caleb Lucas, Trulin Pankau, Gus Heintz, Brentyn Herron, Bracton Cook, Ryder Herron, Quentin Jackson, and Logan Lomax. Caleb Lucas received the Running MVP Award, and Brentyn Herron received Field Events MVP.
Baseball awards were presented by Chris Millsap.
