June 18, 1948
• Mrs. Everett Millsap of New Hope district found a huge hen’s egg Sunday. It was laid by one of her White Rock hens and measured 8 1/2 inches around the long way and 7 1/2 inches the short way. When it was broken, Mrs. Millsap found two eggs within the big shell, one of them being a complete egg with shell.
• Two groups of Rock Port sportsmen leave town this weekend for a fishing excursion in Canada. The first contingent leaving by automobile is Erich Ernsting, George Beasing, Wm. Stanton, and Sheldon Boettner. The second group leaves Tarkio on Sunday in the Bob Graf plane. The party includes John and Bob Graf, George Opp, and Keith Boettner.
• About 60 relatives and friends gathered at the Donald and Daisy Cooper home Sunday for the annual gathering of the M.E. Rosenbohm children.
• Blind piano tuner R.F. Johnston was in Rock Port this week and told The Mail of the narrow escape of his daughter’s family from the recent disastrous flood at Vanport, Oregon, where the entire town was swept away. They had been there a few days before to make housing arrangements and planned to be there again the day after it happened.
June 14, 1973
• A one and one-half year-old infant was thrown from a car when it overturned on US 275 following a collision with a deer six and one-half miles north of Rock Port. Three other passengers, all from Omaha, Nebraska, were also injured.
• Mrs. Blanche Carpenter, Clearwater, Florida, has purchased the home at 211 Mill Street in Rock Port, formerly occupied by Mrs. Maude Glenn. Mrs. Carpenter is the mother of Dr. Wallace Carpenter.
• A scaffolding accident killed one man and injured another at the Cooper Nuclear Plant in Brownville, Nebraska, June 12. Scaffolding on which the two men were working slipped and fell approximately 50 feet to the ground.
• Randy Kirk, 26, of Danville, Illinois, has been promoted to assistant city editor of The Commercial-News newspaper. He is a graduate of Rock Port High School and MU’s School of Journalism.
• The Rock Port Swimming Pool opened June 13. Staff members are manager Jonna Kirk, concession stand attendants Suzanne Evans and Janis Peck, staff member Debbie Hudson, and lifeguards Teri Hendrix, Bev Blank, and LuAnn Manrose.
• Darryl Allen, 24, was sentenced to 40 years in the Men’s State Penitentiary at Fort Madison, Iowa, June 8 for second degree murder in the death of Miss Sharon Barnett, 21, of Tarkio.

• Virg Watts recently hit a hole-in-one on the golf course. There to witness his amazing shot were Stub Long, June Jochim, and Bob Phelps.
• “An old-timer is one who remembers when charity was a virtue, not an organization.”
• Chats: “True Value’s picking up half the cost of the paint on Main Street is truly living up to their new slogan ‘Anything to help’.”
• Kim Bunton, owner of Cabin Fever, made a $1,000 donation to the Rock Port Park Board for the repair and replacement of playground equipment at the Rock Port Municipal Park. The money for the donation was generated through sales of the very popular Princess Di Beanie Baby.
• The 10th annual Citizens Bank & Trust Style Show and Salad Luncheon was held June 3 at the Methodist Church.
• The Rock Port Garden Club has picked the Moreland residence, 616 S. Market, as Yard of the Month.
