The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met May 17, 2023. Board president Garrett Wood called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Board members in attendance were Jamie Barnett, Sam Hannah, Josh Wright, Raymond Gebhards, Amy Hurst and Brooke Vette. Others in attendance were Carrie Livengood, Lanette Hogue, Kari Taylor, Nick Kemerling, Baylee Ray, Shannon Bruns, Jennifer Peregrine, Markie Sundermann and Deyton Thomson. Brooke Walton joined the meeting at 8:16 pm.

The consent agenda and district obligations were approved.

CTA, TAC, and health services reports were shared.

Tarkio Elementary Principal Kari Taylor reported that the elementary had 95% attendance in April. They currently have 166 children enrolled. Kindergarten and first grades took a field trip to Hurst Greenery and to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. The fourth grade held the annual wax museum. May 17 was field day and May 11 was move up day.

Tarkio High School Principal Nick Kemerling reported that graduation was a success. Prom was held April 29, the senior awards assembly was held on May 12, five students attended senior trip on May 8 in Kansas City, and state track was the following weekend.

Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood gave a financial report. Mrs. Livengood shared that she is working on a PD Plan and Assessment plan for CSIP/MSIP 6. She shared that this is the last month for the transportation contract payments for 2022-23 school year, but June will be a big month because of paying out sick leave, career ladder, summer school, curriculum camp, and July and August payrolls. Mrs. Livengood also shared a facility update.

Extra-Duty Salary Schedule – Jamie Barnett moved and Sam Hannah seconded to approve categories 1, 2 and 3 on the adjusted salary schedule as presented. The motion carried 7-0.

Jamie Barnett moved and Brooke Vette seconded to approve the Career Ladder Payroll for June.  The motion passed 7-0.

Mrs. Livengood shared an initial budget for the 2023-24 school year. She also shared program evaluations for the nurse and ECSE Program.

Mrs. Taylor shared a PAT Report.

The board voted to approve the resignation of Ponya King.

The board voted to approve the changes to the elementary secretary job description as presented.

The board voted to deem all windows, doors and cabinetry at the high school surplus property.

The board also approved reimbursement checks for three seniors that had a positive balance in their lunch accounts.

The board voted to hire Dustin Piper as assistant girls’ basketball coach, Devin Albertson as assistant high school baseball coach, and Michelle Seiter as assistant high school volleyball coach.

The meeting moved into closed session pursuant to RSMo § 610.001, record and vote at 9:04 p.m.

The meeting moved out of closed session and adjourned at 10:01 p.m.
