The 21st annual Tarkio Rotary Golf Tournament was played at the Tarkio Golf Club on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, with a record 16 four person teams participating. A total of 64 participants enjoyed the warm, sunny day, friendly com-petition, and free-will donation lunch provided by the Atchison County Hy-Vee and the Tarkio Rotary Club.
The four-person scramble format tournament results are as follows:
Championship Flight – 1st place, Designs By Jayne Team, 57; 2nd place, Rolf Golf Team, 64; 3rd place, Ed Salmond CPA Team, 66; and 4th place, Koch Custom Woodwork Team, 67
“A” Flight – 1st place, Northwest Missouri Living Team, 68; 2nd place, Colfax Farmers Mutual Team, 68; 3rd place, Maryville First Baptist Church Team, 68; 4th place, Kay Rosenbohm and Friends Team, 68; and 5th place, New York Life Team, 69
“B” Flight – 1st place, Tarkio Tech Team, 70; 2nd place, Tarkio Chamber of Commerce Team, 70; 3rd place, Outlaw Wind Team, 70; 4th Place, Friends of Rotary Team, 71; 5th place, Tarkio High School Team, 73; 6th place, Morning Sun Seed Team, 74; and 7th place, Hy-Vee Team, 82
Ties were broken by comparing scores on randomly selected holes on the scorecards. Engraved trophies were awarded to the top two teams in each flight. Logo golf balls, provided by Tarkio Technology Institute, and logo golf towels, sponsored by Morning Sun Seed/Laur Farms, were awarded to all participating players.
Gifts, provided by the Tarkio Rotary Club, were awarded to the winners of the hole prizes following the announcement of the tournament results. Hole prizes and their winners included Chad Mayne and Sarah Arnold, longest drives on holes numbers 2 and 3; Brett Reeves and Adam Rolf, closest to the pin in two/three on holes numbers 5 and 8; and Rachel Rolf and Kelly Rohlfson, longest putts on holes numbers 1 and 9.
Other prizes donated by local businesses were won by various participants in a random drawing. Unfortunately, no one won the $11,000 hole-in-one contest on hole #8 sponsored by Colfax Farmers Mutual Insurance and Dixon Golf. However, all players were invited to participate in the “games within the game” to win valuable prizes including a $350 driver provided by Dixon Golf on holes 6 and 7.
Proceeds will be used to support area youth scholarships, activities and community projects of the club this year.
