Gordon Mark VanGundy, the son of Dick M. and Judy V. (Johnston) VanGundy, was born August 20, 1950, in Fairfax, Missouri. Gordon attended Craig, Missouri, schools until moving to Tarkio, Missouri, in 1959. He then attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, graduating in 1968.

On December 24, 2010, Gordon was united in marriage to Sally Kizer in Maryville, Missouri.

Gordon was a balanced farmer. He did row crops, put up hay, and raised hogs and chickens from start to finish. Gordon also operated a cow-calf operation.

Gordon was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port, Missouri. He enjoyed watching westerns and sports, traveling, and playing softball. Gordon could always be found sitting on the front row supporting his children at all their sporting events. He especially loved hunting birds and coyotes, trail riding on horses, and gun collecting. Gordon passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at his home in Tarkio at the age of 72.

Besides his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by sons, Colby and Dustin VanGundy. Survivors include his wife, Sally VanGundy, Tarkio; children, Stacey VanGundy, Fairfax, Micki VanGundy, Smithville, Missouri, Heather VanGundy, Fairfax, Summer (Shawn) Pieper, Grandview, Texas, Paige (Keaton) Lundquist, Tarkio, and Kelcy VanGundy, Tarkio; grandchildren, Erin Eyman, Brock and Baylee Davis, Wyatt Wakely, Geb Burke, Braxton Pieper, Stella VanGundy, and Cohen and Nora Lundquist; sister, Teresa (Phil) Anderson, Burleson, Texas; nephews, Rhyan (Kelsey) Anderson, Burleson, Texas, and Corey (Shelby) Anderson, Midlothian, Texas; and great-nephews.

Graveside service and interment will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Home Cemetery, Tarkio, conducted by Mr. Chris Stevens. Open visitation begins at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. There is no scheduled family visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tarkio Nutrition Center or Home Cemetery, Tarkio. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Tarkio.
