• Rock Port has a newcomer and property owner in the person of W.D. Crow, who has purchased the compact prefabricated house from H. P. Savage that was placed on a lot in Savage addition some months ago. Mr. Crow is associated with the CAA at Tarkio airport as a weather observer.
• Rock Port’s new $11,000 fire truck has been delivered and given a thorough test. It was taken to Langdon, where water from the Nishnabotna River was used to demonstrate and prove the truck’s worthiness in throwing an effective stream.
• The Atchison County Mail completed 70 years of service to the community and the current issue is the first of a new year.
• Corporal Cohen and Sam Kahn are getting ready to present their new Hiway Super Market on Highway No. 275 to the public’s inspection July 14. The store will be associated with the Independent Grocers Alliance, popularly called I.G.A.
• Two aged residents, one 84 and one 83, of Atchison County have died within the past week. Mrs. T.G. Anderson (Eunice Scamman) was born September 13, 1863, west of Rock Port. George Henry Morgan of Watson was born in this county on December 7, 1864.
• There have been few times in recent years when the city of Rock Port could show as satisfying a financial statement as appears in this issue. With good balances in the several funds, another thing which will prove a surprise to the taxpayer is that the city at present owes only $10,000 in outstanding bonds.

• Mrs. John Phelps and Mrs. Steve Scamman presented Don Hendrix with part of the 112 shirts purchased by Beta Sigma Phi for the girls’ softball teams. The girls’ softball program includes girls from 4th grade through high school. One hundred two girls have signed up and there are eight teams.
• Ten Atchison County 4-H members returned July 2 from a citizenship short course in Washington, D.C. They visited with Senator Tomas Eagleton and Representative Jerry Litton.
• Mr. and Mrs. Max Thomas have purchased and taken over management of the Dairy Sweet on South Main of Rock Port. The Thomases purchased the business from Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eddy, who have operated it for the past 16 seasons.
• The Henry D. Gibbons family of Westboro has been selected as Farm Family of the Year. They own and operate a crop and livestock farm of 282 acres and are the parents of two children. Their son is married and rents a 380 acre farm near Westboro and their daughter has recently married and is making her home on a farm near Blanchard, Iowa.

• Annie Wakefield of Watson was recently recognized for 30 years of service with Magnolia Metal Corporation in Auburn. She is currently the receptionist/secretary/customer service/sales coordinator.
• Town & Country Drug Store closed its doors Monday, June 28. Owner Gary Gebhards turned over his files and merged with Stoner Drug of Rock Port and closed his business of 24 years.
• Cowboy Rhythm will be entertaining with songs of the old west at the Frontier Heritage Festival at the Rock Port City Park on July 4. Des Carpenter and Lyn Denaeyer will also present accounts of individual women who made the journey across the plains.
• The roof of Mulvania Bros. Seed, Rock Port, was damaged by high winds during a recent storm that struck Rock Port and the surrounding area. The roof is estimated to be a total loss. The building is owned by Eric and Shawn Mulvania.
