“Hakuna Matata” is a wonderful phrase and it means no worries as Simba (Jack Bailey), Pumbaa (Briar Daugherty), and Timon (Isaac Dougherty), and the ensemble tell the audience all about it in a song.
Scar (Sophia Storm) and the hyenas, Banzai (Malachi Davis), Shenzi (Cecilia Swoboda), and Ed (Frank Krueger) put their plan into action while singing “Be Prepared.”
Scar (Sophia Storm) and Simba (Jack Bailey) hover over Mufasa (Archer Meyerkorth) after Scar threw him off the cliff.
Pumbaa (Briar Daugherty) and Timon (Isaac Dougherty) create a distraction to draw the hyenas, Banzai (Malachi Davis), Shenzi (Cecilia Swoboda) and Ed (Frank Krueger) away from Pride Rock.
In “Shadowland,” Nala shares her grief at seeing their home destroyed, and professes that though she still loves the Pride, she has to journey away from them to find a new way. The lionesses endorse her path and offer up prayers. It’s a great way to give Nala a strong, independent voice before she reunites with Simba.
The hyenas, Shenzi (Cecilia Swoboda), Banzai (Malachi Davis), and Ed (Frank Krueger), discover Simba (Jack Bailey), Nala (Kinsley Nuckolls), and Zazu (Zeke Gebhards) in the elephant graveyard, the one place that was off limits.
Atchison County was treated to another great performance at the Liberty Theatre in Rock Port, Missouri, last weekend. The theatre sponsored a youth production workshop last week for 46 young actors from around Atchison County. After a week of rehearsals, the actors presented Disney’s The Lion King Jr.
The performances were amazing with the central cast of characters being: Rafiki played by Audrey Dougherty, Mufasa by Archer Meyerkorth, Sarabi by Reese Herron, Zazu by Zeke Gebhards, Scar by Sophia Storm, Simba by Jack Bailey, Nala by Kinsley Nuckolls, Sarafina by Kennedi Seiter, Banzai by Malachi Davis, Shenzi by Cecilia Swoboda, Ed by Frank Krueger, Timon by Isaac Dougherty, Pumbaa by Briar Daugherty, and Baby Lion by Franki Seiter.
Friday’s ensemble included Raiden Baruth, Tiberius Baruth, Cora Braunecker, Ty Braunecker, Greenley Grossman, Zander Grossman, Cora Hirner, JJ Hirner, Wendy Hurst, Lynora Kimpston, Elizabeth Lundy, Jasper Navin, James Swoboda, Mattie Swoboda, Mary Anne Swoboda, Abbi Umbarger, Emmett Umbarger, Emmeline Vette, and Owen Vette.
Saturday’s ensemble included Evermore Bjorklund, Izzy Carpenter, Blaykleigh Daugherty, Kenni Davis, Noah Davis, Ali Ellis, Elaina Kroeger, Isabella Kroeger, Bertie Meyerkorth, Mason Meyerkorth, Abilene Moore, Lucy Ottmann, Ella Sperber, and Greyson Sperber.
The Camp Director/Music Director, Mikaela Sons and her crew of helpers, including Devon Sons, Abby Palmer, Erica Taylor, Andrea Dush, Abbie Harms, Kylie Nuckolls, Lizzie Schlueter, Claire Spiegel, Theresa Crawford, Scott Deatz, Molly Carpenter, and Harlee Pritt, had only a week to prepare and teach the songs, choreography, and speaking lines. It was simply an amazing show. The performance was just over an hour as they took you through the journey of Simba finding his way to his rightful place at the top of Pride Rock.
