The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Tarkio High School.
The meeting was called to order by President Garrett Wood at 7:00 p.m. Board members in attendance were: Jamie Barnett, Amy Hurst, Brooke Vette, Raymond Gebhards, and Josh Wright. Sam Hannah was absent. Others in attendance were board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood, Tarkio R-I Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio High School Principal Kevin Dodson, Tarkio Elementary Principal Dustin Barnes, Jennifer Peregrine, Shannon Bruns, Deyton Thomson, Kara Vette, Markie Sundermann, and Nikki Parshall.
The consent agenda was approved.
Board members voted to approve the district obligations.
Josh Wright moved and Jamie Barnett seconded to approve to accept the donation from the Tarkio Park and Recreation Board. The motion passed 5-0-1.
A TAC report was provided.
Mr. Barnes gave a report on teachers attending summer PD.
Mr. Dodson also reported on summer PD for teachers.
Mrs. Livengood gave a financial report.
Board members voted unanimously to renew the CDs at the current rate.
Old Business
Mrs. Livengood shared an update on the MSIP/CSIP meeting with Nancy Greeley.
She also reported that West Nodaway is no longer going to be riding with Tarkio to vo-tech.
New Business
Board members voted unanimously to raise meal prices $.10 to make the breakfast price $2.10 and lunch price $2.70, and to raise the milk price to $.50 for 2023-2024.
The new high school math curriculum was approved as presented.
Board members voted unanimously to approve the purchase of a new stock trailer for the Ag Department in the amount of $51,665 with the school’s portion being $6,891.25 after the Technical Education Categories Enhancement Grant matching 75% of total cost.
The Conflict of Interest Policy 0342 was adopted.
The elementary and high school handbooks were approved with revisions as presented and the staff handbooks were approved as presented.
The tax rate hearing was set for August 16, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
Kari Taylor was approved as the Homeless Coordinator.
The Special Education Director salary of $73,500 for 2023-2024 was approved.
Board members voted unanimously to hire the following: Shannon Bruns, elementary secretary for the 2023-2024 school year; Terry Wooten, assistant girls high school wrestling coach; and Jayne Martin, PAT.
Board members voted unanimously to go into closed session pursuant to RSMo §610.001, Record and Vote, at 7:50 p.m.
Josh Wright moved and Raymond Gebhards seconded to approve the resignation of Superintendent Carrie Livengood as of August 1, 2023. The motion carried 5-1.
The closed session was adjourned and the meeting returned to open session at 9:33 p.m.
Josh Wright moved and Brooke Vette seconded to hire Dustin Barnes as Elementary Principal and Superintendent for one year. The motion passed 6-0.
Josh Wright moved, and Raymond Gebhards seconded to hire Carrie Livengood for high school math. The motion passed 6-0.
