• New telephone directories are going out to patrons of the Atchison County Telephone Company.
• Entertainment of all kinds is guaranteed to be of enormous interest to all ages for the Tarkiesta August 25-28 in Tarkio. Leading up to the event, the red and yellow costumed Boosters and Boosterettes will lead a snake dance on Main Street as part of a big pep rally August 18.
• Mayor Claude Templeton, who is executive vice-president of the First National Bank here, leaves today for Chicago, Illinois, to attend a Financial Public Relations Association series of meetings.
• G.A. Lowry is the new manager of the Golden Rule Store in Tarkio. Mr. Lowry, along with his wife and three-year-old son, come to Tarkio from Moberly, Missouri.
• Approximately 400 signatures were attached to the letter written by 19 extension clubs of Atchison County recommending that Miss Minnie J. Strobel, county nurse, be made the “Truly Good Neighbor” of the Breakfast in Hollywood program. The letter will be read on the 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 18, program originating from Hollywood. It may be heard well in this vicinity over KMA or KCMO.
• Mrs. Myra Low of the Tarkio College Department of Sociology spoke last night on a radio forum from the University Club at Chautauqua, New York.

• At the U-Save Mart at 316 Main Street in Tarkio, take advantage of these back-to-school savings: scissors, 23¢; choice of white or blue misses’ sneakers, $1.47; half moon swinger purse, $1.27; package of three assorted colors of cotton socks, 88¢; Skinny Dip spray cologne mist, $1.16; and lunch kits including 1/2 pint thermos bottle, $2.27.
• Twenty-eight two legged hikers and one four-legged raised $450 in their 10-mile hunger hike from St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri, to Tarkio, finishing up at Curley’s drive-in.
• An Independence, Missouri, family struck and killed a 150 pound hog owned by Carl Erdman of Tarkio one-half mile west of the Tarkio wye August 12 at 10:15 p.m.
• The Atchison County Pork Producers are seeking single girls between the ages of 17 and 20 who reside on a farm where pork is produced. They will be contestants in a Pork Queen contest.

• Tarkio Garden Club has selected the following as August Yards of the Month: Dennis and Yolanda Erickson, 902 N. 5th; James and Thelma Woolsey, 1211 McNary; Roy and Gayla McIntosh, 705 College; Phyllis Jackson, 403 Broad; Blaine and Suzanne Brought, 702 Walnut; Cindy White and Derald McEnaney, 606 S. 9th; and Tarkio Presbyterian Church, 700 Maple.
• Brian Heits and Caleb Colflesh, both of Tarkio, received their rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony held at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri, August 9. They are members of Troop 88.
• A backyard filled with eight tents, 30 girls, and 10 sponsors added up to a lot of fun for the Tarkio Assembly of God Church Missionette Campout on a recent Friday evening. The girls enjoyed a wiener roast, a scavenger hunt, devotionals with singing, and a tasty breakfast.
