The Tarkio Nutrition Center had some uninvited guests hanging out on the property Wednesday, August 23, 2023. A swarm of 5,000 to 6,000 bees had settled in one of the trees on the front lawn. That evening, David Fruechtenicht of Tarkio came geared up and relocated them to bee hives on his property. David said this is late in the season to gather a swarm and the bees don’t have enough time left in the season to build up a food source for the winter, so he has set them up with five large frames of honey to start with. So far, they are settling in well. David and his wife, Sharon, own NeHiCoMo Apiary and sell honey as Blessed Bees, a nonprofit that funds missions. (Sharon Fruechtenicht photos)
