September 10, 1948
• The Rock Port Cardinals bounced back from last week’s loss to win 7 to 3 over the Fairfax Merchants Sunday on the local diamond. The Cardinals will take on the Omaha Tigers in their last home baseball game of the season Sunday. The Cards will close out the season a week later at Burlington Junction.
• Atchison County farmers have placed 115,692 bushels of wheat under loan, according to the Triple-A office, as of September 4. Approximately 75 farmers have taken advantage of the wheat loan program this year.
• Mr. and Mrs. John T. Wells have purchased from L.A. Waynick the new and modern home which was built in Savage Addition last spring by Erich Ernsting. The house is one of Rock Port’s very newest and most attractive homes.
• The Ralph Greer Post of the American Legion, in line with its continued improvements at the Memorial Building, has purchased 300 sets of dinnerware, consisting of dinner plate, salad bowl, dessert plate, and cup. The Legion also plans to purchase silverware, so that a complete service will be available for large functions.
September 6, 1973
• Congressman Jerry Litton of Missouri’s 6th District gave the main address at the 18th annual meeting of the Atchison County Cooperative Association August 29.
• Interstate 29 was officially opened Friday, August 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri-Iowa line with ribbon cutting ceremonies heralding the removal of barriers on 13.04 miles of new interstate from the state line south to U.S. 136 west of Rock Port. State Representative Hardin Cox was the master of ceremonies.The Rock Port and Hamburg school bands led the program. Missouri dignitaries attending included Missouri State Treasurer James I. Spainhower and Rock Port Mayor Charles Shaw.
• Greenley’s Market advertised the following specials: Crisco, 3 pound can, 89¢; sugar, 5 pound bag, 49¢; Maxwell House instant coffee, 10-oz. jar, $1.39; sliced bacon, 1 pound package, $1.19; and Heinz ketchup, 20 oz. bottle, 39¢.
• Rock Port’s city council accepted bids on a firehouse addition at their regular meeting September 4. A bid by Burke and Sons Lumber Co. of $11,899 made four months ago for a block construction type building similar to the present structure was accepted provided the bid still stands.
• Missouri Beef Packers has temporarily closed down operations at the Rock Port plant. The price freeze imposed on beef the last several months will be lifted September 12.
September 3, 1998
• The Atchison County Extension Center moved to its new location Friday, August 28. The new facility is on the Atchison County Fair Grounds at 201 Hwy. 136 East in Rock Port.
• Nearly 300 golfers participated in the annual CommuniTEE Golf Benefit at Mound City. Around $48,459 was raised to benefit Community Hospital Association of Fairfax. Part of the proceeds will be used to purchase a fetal heart monitor for the obstetrical department at the hospital.
• The Rock Port Garden Club selected the yard of Anna Rosenbohm at 510 W. Calhoun as September Yard of the Month.
• Georgia M. Houghton of Tarkio was guest of honor at a dinner hosted by the Atchison County Library August 27. Mrs. Houghton recently retired from the Library Board of Trustees. She had served as trustee for 30 years, and was the presiding officer for more than half of those years.
