East Atchison held its home opener against the Albany Warriors Friday, September 1. Both teams were 1-0 to start the 2023 season. This game was a battle of defensives. It wasn’t until late in the first quarter that Albany would score with 2:16 left in the quarter. East Atchison would answer back in the second quarter with a quarterback keep by Blake Simmons, who scrambled for 36 yards. The two point attempt was no good, tying the ball game at 6-6. EA would follow up with a score by running back Sammie Litherbury, making the score 12-6. Just before half the Warriors would punch one in and get the two point conversion to make the score 14-12 Albany.

Coming out of halftime the Warriors would connect on a 45 yard pass to stretch the lead to 22-12. EA would battle back in the third quarter to score what would be their final touchdown on the night with a five yard run from Sammie Litherbury, making the score 22-18. This would be the final score as neither team scored in the fourth quarter battling it out.

East Atchison will travel to Burlington Junction this Friday to take on Nodaway Valley.
