A nice crowd of people made their way through the quilt show held at the Atchison County Memorial Building. There were over 170 quilts on display.

Angela Mace, a first time quilter, placed second in the quilt show. The amount of time that it takes to make one quilt is definitely a labor of love.

Missouri Freedom Quilters presented Quilts of Valor during the quilt show. Veterans receiving Quilts of Valor were: seated – Wilbur Lang and Jerry McMahon; and back – John Brown.

Veteran Frank Hibbard received his Quilt of Valor at Pleasant View Nursing Home.

The Missouri Freedom Quilters have saved scraps of fabric from their Quilts of Valor projects, and used those remnants to create 18 lap throws. Rosita Stoner, Alice Rader, Jean Mensen, and Sharon Groff hold four of the lap quilts, which were donated to the Cameron Veterans Home.

There were over 170 quilts on display at the annual quilt show Saturday, October 7, at the Atchison County Memorial Building in Rock Port, Missouri. The event was sponsored by the Rock Port Tourism Board and Quilters Boutique.

The winners from each class are as follows:

• Hand Pieced – 1st place, Leland Lane; 2nd place, Merylan Lowrey; and 3rd place, Stephanie Dearmont.

• Machine Pieced – 1st place, Delta Budt; 2nd place, Sandra Umbarger; and 3rd place, Sandra Umbarger.

• Needlework – 1st place, Delta Budt; 2nd place, Donna Whelan; and 3rd place, Lois Whitehead.

• Appliqué – 1st place, Donna Budt; 2nd place, Kim Brake; and 3rd place, Linda Hug.

• Table Runner or Wall Hanging – 1st place, Sandra Wilmes; 2nd place, Valerie Duncan; and 3rd place, Bev Callow.

• Beginner (made within the quilter’s first year of quilting) – 1st place, J.C. Coots; 2nd place, Angela Mace; and 3rd place, Amanda Smith.

Best of Show went to J.C. Coots and Viewer’s Choice went to Delta Budt.

Crystal Herron was the winner of the antique quilt raffled by the Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxiliary.
