East Atchison played host to Rock Port on Friday night at the M. David Palmerio Stadium in Tarkio, Missouri. Both football teams came ready to play as the first half was a defensive battle.

EA would start the game with the ball. Quarterback Blake Simmons hit Owen DeRosier on a post route up the middle to give the Wolves great field position on the RP 25 yard line, but Rock Port’s defense would go to work and hold the Wolves to a four and out, turning the ball over on downs. In three plays, Rock Port would move the ball to the Wolves’ 25 yard line with a big catch and run by Corbyn Jakub, but on the next play quarterback Cade Makings tried a keep and fumbled the ball into the hands of Trent Kingery, who would go untouched for a touchdown, giving the Wolves the first points of the game.

Rock Port would answer on the next series of downs with the help of a long run by Dakota Evans and a quarterback keep by Cade Makings. The two point conversion was good and the game was tied at 8. This would be how the first half would end as neither team could seem to find their groove offensively. They were both strong defensively, not giving up big plays. Penalties also played a big part for both teams, stopping the momentum for a drive.

The second half was a different story for EA as Linkin Murry would intercept the ball from Makings on the first play to give the Wolves great field position. Seven plays later, quarterback Blake Simmons put another six points up and he would hit Collin Hedlund for the two point conversion. This brought the score to 16-8 East Atchison. The Jays would go three and punt the ball, giving the Wolves the ball on the Blue Jays’ 30 yard line. Murry would take the handoff from Simmons. Going off left side, he would take it to the house for six and Simmons would tag on two more points, giving the Wolves a 24-8 lead.

On Rock Port’s second possession, Sammie Litherbury would get a pick six, taking it back 30 yards. With a failed two point conversion, the Wolves were leading 30-8 going in to the fourth quarter.

Rock Port would find the end zone one more time with a go route by Corbyn Jakub from quarterback Cade Makings, with a two point conversion by Evans to give Rock Port 16 on the night. The Wolves’ Linkin Murry would find the end zone once again to give the Wolves their final score of the game. This brought the score to 36-16 East Atchison.

EA will travel to Oregon this Friday, October 20, to take on South Holt. Rock Port is at home for parents night against Platte Valley.
