• Showing at The Tarkio theatre: “Oklahoma Blues,” “Mary Lou,” “East Side of Heaven,” “The Big City,” “Wall Flower,” and “The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap.”
• Squire Ice Cream Co. is advertising cranberry sherbet for Thanksgiving. “We also have those decorative slices in turkeys, pumpkins, and autumn leaves.”
• Services were held November 18 for Mrs. Gerhard Laumann, who passed away November 16 at the age of 85. She was born April 20, 1863, at Himbergen, province of Hannover, Germany. At the age of 20, she came with her parents to the United States and on July 2, 1885, she married Gerhard Laumann in Hamburg, Iowa. Mrs. Laumann was a charter member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Westboro, Missouri.
• Dr. Ellis Jones Hough presented his resignation to the First Presbyterian Church last Sunday. Dr. Hough is president of the Tarkio Ministerial Alliance and is chaplain of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199. During WWI, he was a soldier in the British army, and during WWII, he served as the chaplain in Patton’s army overseas.

• The Nu Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will conduct a tour of homes on Sunday, December 16. The homes to be included are those of Dr. and Mrs. Howard Bell, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanna, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hixson, Mr. and Mrs. John Walkinshaw, Mr. and Mrs. James Shaum, and the Tarkio College Manse.
• Fix 11 turkeys (each weighing around 20 to 22 pounds), 10 gallons of dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered corn, seven gallons of cranberry sauce, hot rolls and butter, ice cream, and milk, and then you can imagine fixing Thanksgiving dinner for 600 people. That was the task of the Tarkio R-I School cooks. The cooks spent six and one-half hours preparing the meal, which took one hour and 20 minutes to serve everyone.
• New teacher Judy Clark is featured in The Weekly Warrior. Mrs. Clark is teaching typing and clerical practice this year at THS, along with being a co-sponsor for Smoke Signals.
• Brownie Troop 151 held the formal investiture at the United Presbyterian Church November 19. The color guard began the ceremony and then the first year Brownies received their pins from their big sisters. After singing for the guests, punch and cookies were served.

• Tarkio R-I School was broken into over the weekend. An undetermined amount of cash was taken and some property was also stolen. According to the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, the Rock Port R-II School was also burglarized.
• Farmers City 4-H members David McEnaney, Leasa and Lindsey Hicks, and Dallas and Taylor Hurst shopped at Hy-Vee in Tarkio to purchase items for a Thanksgiving food basket that they provide to a family in need each year.
• Both Tarkio junior high girls’ and boys’ basketball teams won the South Holt Tournament in Oregon, Missouri.
