“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ~ Isaiah 9:6

This verse from Isaiah is just one of many Old Testament texts that point to Jesus the Christ. Texts point to various stages of His life. It is hard to honestly say how many Old Testament texts point to the Savior. A quick Google search reveals a range of 44 – 400 . . . one way to say it is there are a bunch.

It is safe to say that wherever you land in that range, the people of God were looking forward to a Savior, a Messiah! They were “EXPECTING” Immanuel, “God with Us.” As we move into the Advent season, I would challenge everyone, including myself, to “EXPECT” Jesus to show up.

Here is the catch . . . Jesus is present in our lives through the Holy Spirit. However, the only way for Him to manifest physically is through us. Remember, we are the “hands and feet” of Jesus. In this Advent season and Christmas holiday, let us all look for ways to be “Jesus” in our world. Many of us are already giving and compassionate; could we be more so? It is exciting to “EXPECT” Jesus to show up and then make sure He does it through us. I pray you have a wonderful Advent season and a wonderful Christmas holiday!

Churches all over the county are planning special events and worship services throughout December. If you are not attending a church regularly, I encourage you to find one to attend this Christmas season. Family during the holidays is a blessing, and a church family can be an incredible gift to share the season with!
