• An open house honoring the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. H.Y. “Jake” Rupe will be held December 26 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gratz Bartholomew. Henry Y. Rupe and Miss Flo Deatz were married December 25, 1898, in the South Methodist Church.
• The Mail is indebted to Mrs. Opal Herron for delivery of some nice holly which had come to her from Mrs. Lucy Brindle of Cornelius, Oregon, with a request that part of it be given this newspaper.
• The motor vehicle registration division at Jefferson City says that while all Missouri license plates are due January 1, some passenger vehicle plates, due to the steel shortage, will not be available at that time. However, 1948 license plates will be valid until such time as the 1949 plates are available.
• During the pre-Christmas mail rush the Rock Port Post Office reports that machine cancellations of letters and greeting cards will total 50,000, which is considerably higher than the figure of 41,805 in 1947.

• Mr. and Mrs. Arthur M. Rosenbohm will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception at the Rock Port Lutheran Church January 6. Miss Orba Cooper and Arthur Rosenbohm married January 9, 1924, at the Lutheran Church in Rock Port by Pastor A. Gillman.

• Greenley’s Market in Rock Port advertises the following specials: Armour’s star whole hams, 98¢ per pound; Gold Crest turkeys, 79¢ per pound; Shurfine soda pop, 10 12 oz. cans for 89¢; Delicious apples, 10 for 79¢; Maxwell House instant coffee, 10 oz. jar $1.49 with coupon; Shurfine hamburger dill pickles, quart jar 59¢; and Keebler club crackers, 57¢ per package.
• The God and Man Services had their largest attendance record for several years with 585 this year.
• Tec. Sgt. Billie J. Case, a 1955 Watson High School graduate, has received the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service as a traffic analysis supervisor while assigned to Bentwaters RAF Station in England.
• The crippled duck and goose toll in Atchison County is beyond belief. Conservation Agent Richard Sperber says it appears that not near as many hunters are the deadeye dans they claim to be. He said while walking around just one lake, he counted 427 dead geese. He advises to let the bird get close enough to kill clean or miss clean.

• Del Stoltenberg was named the Track Coach of the Year at the Missouri Track Coaches Clinic held in Columbia December 11 and 12. Mr. Stoltenberg also received this honor in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
• Mrs. Mulvania’s FACS class made gingerbread houses to use as Christmas decorations at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port. The first place gingerbread house was made by Trevor Hale, Jade Sybert, Travis Gubser, and Matt Brown.
• At a special meeting Monday, December 21, the Rock Port R-II Board of Education accepted the resignations of Superintendent Gary Arthaud and Secondary Principal Mike Williams. Mr. Arthaud has accepted a position in the Carbon Dale, Illinois, area and Mr. Williams said his future plans are unknown at this time.
• Winners of the coloring contest held at the Atchison County Mail were: 2-5, 1st place, Nick Howell; 6-8, 1st place, Laura Garst; and 9-11, 1st place, Tarah Garst.
