December 31, 1948

• The Westboro Lions Club met Monday night in the Lions hall. Thirty members were present. Lion Neal VanStavern reported that a train carload of corn had been shipped out of Westboro as the contribution toward the CROP program.

• Joseph R. Bailey, former Tarkio resident, has been appointed assistant manager of the Citizens National Bank, Miracle Mile Branch, in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Bailey attended school in Tarkio and took a pre-med course at Tarkio College. He went into the banking field after receiving a medical discharge from the Army Air Force.

• A flood of telephone calls resulting from the combination of Christmas and bad weather swamped the Tarkio exchange of the Atchison County Telephone company. Delays of up to 5 or 6 hours on long distance calls were reported.

• Dr. M. Earle Collins, Tarkio College president, was guest speaker of the annual Tarkio College alumni dinner at the First United Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, California. The dinner is annually attended by 75 to 100 Tarkio alumni and former residents of the town who are now living throughout California.

January 3, 1974

• Professor Lee Jacobson, former founder and conductor of the Colorado Chorale, is proud to announce the formation of the Northwest Missouri State Chorale. The group will be composed of area townspeople and college students.

• Cinda Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tucker of Tarkio, was the winner of the giant eight foot stocking filled with presents given by the First National Bank. 

• Patricia Maness had drawings on exhibit in a group show at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, November through December. She also has a drawing in a show at the Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas, December 14 through January 9. Pat is an art professor at Tarkio College.   

December 31, 1998

• The 10th Street Restaurant in Tarkio is advertising a New Year’s Day deal of 99¢ cheeseburgers.

• A senior basketball league for players over 30 years of age will begin in January at Heartland Recreation Center in Tarkio. The teams will each have between five and nine players and will meet on Sundays January 10 through February 28.

• The Tarkio Post Office held a Customer Appreciation Day Wednesday, December 23. The customers were treated to refreshments.

• Blake Hurst, a farmer from Westboro, Missouri, was re-elected for a third, two-year term to the Missouri Farm Bureau Board of Directors at the organization’s 84th Annual Meeting December 8. Hurst represents District 1, the northwest area of the state.
