The Rock Port Tourism Board met Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Rock Port City Hall. Members present were Holly Huntley, Charlie Clodfelter, Mark Schoonover, Jody VanSickle, Ashtyn Beatty, and Kate Curry. Tami Lansdown, Angela Mace, and Thea Lewis were absent.
Board members approved the meeting agenda, the minutes of the November 10, 2023, meeting and the November 2023 financials.
Projects & Events
Information was shared about the Christmas Lights Challenge.
Holly spoke to Scott Jones regarding the visit from Santa. The cost of candy and fruit came in right around $1,500 of the approved $2000 budget.
Holly spoke to Raechel regarding a Saturday in January for the Superhero Bowl. Raechel does not have availability in January so the event is tabled for now.
Holly wrapped the light poles with garland and lights. It was discovered that the garland is not long enough to cover the entire pole. The board had discussed new garland and lights in the November meeting. It was discussed that these items will be going on sale after the holiday. Board members voted to approve $2,000 towards new lights and garland for next season.
Holly delivered the donation checks to the three chosen recipients of band night proceeds. The Tourism Board received a thank you from C.A.R.E. which was read during the meeting.
Band nights in 2024 were discussed. They also discussed other options besides bands with midget wrestling, a comedian, and a semi, car, and bike show being other options.
Kate reported that Natalie Harmon may have a unit open in the next few months and that they are running $70 per month, but the price will probably increase in 2024. The board has not had a chance to see what they are currently storing, so this item was tabled.
Discussion on the turbine blade was tabled.
Tami provided a written update for the quilt show. There were over 300 guests from six states in attendance. All in all, the event was a success and “Grandma’s Attic” was a hit!
Board members approved Summer Palooza 2024.
Other events were discussed for the next year. Some ideas were 4th of July activities, Thanksgiving parade, and Christmas light parade.
Other Business
Mike Farmer resigned from the board before the November meeting. This leaves the vice president seat open. The Tourism Board thanked Mike for his service.
The next meeting will be January 11, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
