• Mrs. G.A. Johnson and Mrs.Clarence Kirkendoll conceived a clever and original idea of opening a drive for the polio funds by making stuffed dolls. A total of $228 was earned from the sale of the 214 dolls produced.
• A former Tarkio teacher, Anna M.Clark, has been granted a signal honor at Webster Groves schools where she last taught. A new school is being built on West Big Bend Road in the St. Louis suburb and it will be known as the Anna M. Clark School. Miss Clark taught in Missouri for 42 years.
• Cpl. Jewell B. Chaney has signed up for three more years service with the Army. He now is serving with a military police service company in Germany. Cpl. Chaney has spent five years in service, having served in the Pacific area during WWII and has been in Germany for two years.
• Mr. and Mrs. Joe Graham, who have lived in the Tarkio area for 49 years, will observe their golden anniversary Monday at their home in Tarkio.
• J.A. Gerlash, who began his 56th year of law practice in Tarkio on January 1, will observe his 84th birthday Sunday. Mr. Gerlash, Tarkio’s oldest businessman in age and in number of years in business, opened his office in the building it now occupies January 1, 1894.
• Funeral services were held at Davis Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon for C. H. Whitlow. Mr. Whitlow was engaged in shipping mules prior to and during World War I. A pioneer in the automobile industry, he became associated with the General Motors corporation in 1907 and remained active in the same business until his death.

• Six art works by famous artists from the Tarkio College collection are now on loan at Shenandoah High School. The collection includes works by Goya, Chagal, Braque, Giacometti, and Rouault.
• Bruce Barnett, senior at Tarkio College, placed 4th in the 60-yard high hurdles in the National Indoor Meet of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics held in Kansas City January 25-26. Bruce ran the event in 7.3 seconds. Bob Rudrow of Tarkio qualified for the finals by jumping 6’4” in the high jump, but did not place. The Owls’ Walter Knox made it to the semifinals in the 600-yard dash with a time of 1:15.7.
• Ned Seymour has been elected as president of the Tarkio Golf Club. Howard Wheatley is vice-president, Rev. Lloyd Dalbey is secretary and Don Pierpoint is treasurer. Other board members are Dr. C. L. Barnard, Jerry Hill, and Darrell Marti.

• The Tarkio High School Basketball Homecoming king and queen candidates are Tre Scott, Jeff Champlin, Jesse Knox, Jamie Johnson, Mendy Martin, and Andrea Murphy.
• Rogers Pharmacy in Tarkio is being remodeled. A handicap ramp is being installed at the entrance and the pharmaceutical area has been moved up to the middle of the store.
• Melanie Smith, daughter of Bill and Teresa Smith of Tarkio and a graduate of Tarkio High School, left January 25 for a semester of studying in Italy and a summer internship in Norway. Melanie is an architect student at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.
