One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Atchison County early Wednesday morning, January 17, 2024. The accident occurred on southbound Interstate 29 roughly 10 miles north of Rock Port shortly before 12:15 a.m.
A 2008 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by 44-year-old Christal Bobbitt of Maple Heights, Ohio, was southbound on I-29 when it was struck from behind by a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by (no given name) Rajpal, 27, of Sacramento, California. The collision caused the Chrysler to skid and slide off the west side of the road before coming to rest on its wheels on the west shoulder. The Freightliner came to a controlled stop.
Bobbitt, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by Hamburg Ambulance to Grape Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Rajpal, who was also wearing a seat belt, did not report any injuries.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper J. D. Schmedding investigated the scene. He was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, local firemen, and the Hamburg ambulance crew.
