March 25, 1949

• Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Charles Farley. Dona Irene Farley was born near Watson and married Charles Farley of Fairfax December 6, 1913. Mrs. Farley was the mother of six sons, who all saw service during WWII. They acted as pallbearers for their mother’s service.

• The annual meeting of school board members was held at Rock Port Wednesday, March 16. Mrs. Ella Campbell, clerk of Wolfe school district since 1904, was given special recognition. She has missed only one board meeting during her 45 years of service.

• Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jorgensen have sold their cafe to Mrs. Mildred L. Taylor of Fairfax and Mrs. Charles Wennihan of Tarkio.

• The Fairfax school band and other music pupils placed high in several of the contests held at the Tri-State Music Contest held in Tarkio Friday and Saturday last week. The band, in its first out-of-town appearance in the pretty new uniforms, was rated superior, which is the highest rating given.

• The Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call at the Art Moser garage. Workmen were working on an old car and the cutting torch ignited the gasoline in the gas tank. There was quite a blaze for a while, but the fire was soon extinguished with little damage.

• The Twentieth Century Club’s “Old Time” program will be held at the school auditorium Friday night. Proceeds will go to the hospital fund. Old time costumes will be worn and a pantomime will be presented by club members dressed in the costumes of years ago.

March 28, 1974

• Mrs. R. L. Cundall sustained a fractured wrist in a fall on the street in Fairfax on Friday. She was walking home carrying a sack of groceries when she fell near the Mae Miller home. Mrs. Marion Ray saw her plight and assisted her home and then to the hospital.

• A record-breaking crowd of 64 attended the Over 60 supper and program Monday evening at the Christian Church. After a delicious supper, the members were treated to a musical program by Mr. and Mrs. Perry Scott and Mrs. Gary Wennihan.

• The American Legion Auxiliary named Marilyn Jones as delegate to Girls’ State at Stephens College, Columbia, June 23-29. Linda Scarlett is alternate.

• The Community Hospital Auxiliary is putting out an SOS for clay or plastic flower pots, three to four inches in size. A generous member is donating African violet cuttings which are being sold through the gift shop at the hospital.

March 25, 1999

• Winners of the 4-H Carnival poster contest are Casey Graves, Seth Showalter, Mary Gilbert, John Gilbert, Luke Moore, Lacy Moore, Kaylyn Sly, and Emily Seymour. The carnival was held Friday, March 19.

• The Fairfax FHA Chapter participated in the Regional STAR Events March 17 at North Andrew. Members LeAnn Graves, Sabrina Nemyer, and Andrea Harding did a project with children entitled “Hands on Nutrition” and earned a gold medal for their display and presentation.

• Dustin Graves has been selected to attend the Sophomore Pilgrimage. The one day trip to Jefferson City, Missouri, will include tours of the capitol rotunda, the state museum, legislature galleries, the Truman office building, and Jefferson’s Landing.

• The Tarkio High School and Fairfax High School concert bands will be performing in concert with the Northwest Missouri State University Symphonic Band Tuesday, March 30, in the Charles Johnson Theater in the fine arts building on the Northwest campus.
