The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry board met Tuesday, March 12, 2024, with 15 members present. Churches represented were Fairfax – Methodist and Presbyterian; Tarkio – Catholic, Christian, Church of God,  Presbyterian, and Good News Church; and Westboro – Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran.

In January, 65 individuals representing 33 families were served. Due to the extreme weather the pantry was only able to be open two times in January.  In February, 98 individuals representing 46 families were assisted. The numbers of those in need of food is steadily rising at the same time food prices continue to rise. The board was appreciative of generous meat donations by both Don Yonkers and Drew Oswald.   As always, food donations as well as monetary donations are always needed.

The Westboro Methodist Church will open the food pantry in March.  The Fairfax Baptist and Christian Churches will open the  pantry in  April. The food pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. the third and fourth weeks of each month. The pantry is also open the third Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m..

The food pantry is currently low on the following items: apple juice (64 oz.), tomato  juice (46 oz. can), saltine crackers, soups (cream of mushroom, chicken noodle, tomato, cream of chicken, vegetable beef, chili), sugar (5 lbs.), chili style beans, canned pasta (beefaroni, SpaghettiOs), and dish soap.

The food pantry is located at 315 Main Street in Tarkio.
