April 15, 1949
• The Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative has made application for a license to operate a short wave radio system with which to make contact with its service trucks. There will be a transmitter at the local office and four trucks will be equipped with receivers. A tower some 150 feet tall will be erected a short distance east of town.
• One nice thing about an eclipse of the moon, such as was seen here Tuesday night, is that you don’t need smoked glasses to watch it. Large numbers of Rock Porters watched the progress of the moon being hidden by the eclipse.
• Rock Port, as seen from the air, appeared in a photo in last Sunday’s St. Joseph News-Press. The picture is one of a series of pictures of towns in this territory now running every Sunday in the News-Press. The view is a north and south showing of Main Street.
• The Rock Port Board of Education voted to hire Donald W. Johnson of Stanberry, Missouri, as the superintendent.
• Approximately 900 Atchison County citizens took advantage of the chest x-ray service offered last week by the Atchison County Tuberculosis Association. The results will be reported back to the individuals in three or four weeks.
April 11, 1974
• Lloyd Gildersleeve has sold Gildersleeve Drug Store to Gary Gebhards after 33 years of serving the public. Gebhards will change the name to Town and Country Drug.
• Rock Port R-II has offered 40 teachers contracts to return to the staff for the 1974-75 year. Nine teachers have already indicated they will not return for various reasons.
• Mr. and Mrs. Harold Smith have resigned as managers of the Pleasant View rest home. The board is now looking for a new manager to take over by the first of August. The Smiths are retiring and returning to their home in Bellevue, Nebraska.
• Conley Bennington car agency has made a big improvement by remodeling the entire front of their building on highway 136. White and blue metal panels with baked on paint completely cover the walls of the old building making the structure look considerably large. Inside, Bennington enlarged his showroom to take up to five cars by eliminating one wall, changing a door, and painting.

• Mrs. Farley’s and Mrs. Hughes’ kindergarten classes got an inside view of the human body while on a field trip in Maryville. The event was called Body Walk and took the children through a simulated human body through a series of tunnels where they passed through the mouth, stomach, small intestines, heart, lungs, bones, skin, muscles, and the brain.
• Dolphens Design and Sign of Ralston, Nebraska, hung new signage on I-29 for Brownville, Nebraska, near Watson, Missouri.
• Chats: “Remodeling of Trail Boss is about complete. There are some nice changes and if you are in the mood for a good steak (black Angus) along with a toddy, give them a try.”
• Richard Evans has been hired as Rock Port High School Principal and Cynthia D. Baldwin has been hired as Rock Port Elementary Principal.
