• At Hy-Klaas Food Stores in Rock Port: bread, 10¢; a large head of lettuce, 14¢; large package of ivory flakes or Tide, 25¢; minute steaks, 15¢; and Krystal oleo, 19¢ per pound.
• A break in what is known as the Morgan dike west of Watson late last week flooded hundreds of acres of land. It is estimated some 8,000 acres were under water. However, the river level started falling shortly after the break occurred. The levee suffered a break some 40 feet wide or wider.
• Hundreds of boys and girls attended the Easter egg hunt on the Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Bertram premises in Rock Port. It is estimated that some 1,800 eggs had been colored for the event.
• Funeral services were held April 18 for Henry Roje, who came to Atchison County 55 years ago this month. Henry was born April 22, 1870, in Rodewald, Hanover, Germany. He came to Langdon, Missouri, in 1894, arriving here on his birthday. He made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schierkolk. Mr. Roje was a good farmer, thrifty and industrious.

• Rock Port’s police force is now giving 24-hour protection. The force now has City Marshal Dean Lane, Patrolman Brad Mathers, and recent hires Gary Gaines and Greg Chamberlain. All the officers are fully uniformed and equipped and there are two fully equipped police cars.
• Mr. Raymond Smith, 76, Rock Port, died April 14. In 1921, Mr. Smith, a WWI vet, came to Rock Port and purchased a jewelry establishment from Vern Rose. He and his wife, Lucy (Stiles), operated the Smith Jewelry Store for 40 years. During WWII, he was employed as a telephone maintenance man at the Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha.
• Three teens were caught robbing the Northwest Missouri Fur and Supply, north of Rock Port on U.S. 136. Guns, ammunition, and knives taken from the store were found in their possession.
• For Atchison County’s war veterans, a government payout will provide them with approximately $11,000 apiece. The checks will be going to 142 local former servicemen.
• At Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Bang The Drum Slowly” and “The Long Goodbye.”

• Cecil DeMott, Steve Showalter, and David Gebhards were sworn in as new members of the Rock Port R-II School Board at the April 8 meeting.
• The Soil and Water Conservation District’s poster contest overall winners were Crystal Harmon and Cheyenne Francis, 1st; Jesse Simmons, 2nd; and Brittany Hogue, 3rd.
• The grand opening of the newly remodeled Trail Boss Restaurant & Lounge in Rock Port will be held Friday, April 23. Jerry Forney Blues Band will perform Saturday, April 24.
• Erin Barr has been named manager of the Rock Port McDonald’s. Lynn Mohline, former manager, has been promoted to supervisor over three area stores, Rock Port, Clarinda, Iowa, and Nebraska City, Nebraska.
• Leo Erdman and his wonder dog Bosco were the first to report findings of mushrooms in Atchison County.
