• Forty-nine students, the largest graduating class in Tarkio College’s history, will receive the Bachelor of Arts degree at the 1949 63rd Commencement Ceremony Tuesday, May 24, in David Rankin Hall. Three honorary degrees will be conferred: W.H. Merriam (’07), who for 35 years has been a missionary in Punjab, India; Frank Livingston, president of the Ralston Steel Car Co. in Columbus, Ohio; and S. Jasper Patterson (’21), director adult education and men’s work of the executive committee of Religious Education and Publication in Richmond, Virginia.
• A new air service, chemical spraying from a plane, is being offered from the Tarkio airport. The underwing spraying equipment has been installed on a new Piper Cub specially powered by an 85 horsepower engine. Robert Gobel will pilot the plane.

• Over 100 walkers gathered early Saturday morning at Third and Park in Tarkio. They then walked 10 miles along the railroad tracks all the way to Westboro. About 20 energetic people even walked back for a total of 20 miles. Over $2,000 in pledges were turned in to make it a very profitable day for the NOWEMO Achievement Workshop and many other local and national organizations.
• Lois Martin is currently exhibiting a collection of her paintings and drawings at the Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio. Lois has also exhibited in the main Kansas City Public Library on Oak Street, and at the Mule Barn and at the Walnut Inn, both in Tarkio.
• The Westboro Lions Club held its 26th anniversary dinner recently in the Westboro Methodist Church. Tom Nighswonger, District Governor, was the guest speaker. The Sweet Adelines performed for over 90 attendees.
• Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams were suprised with a 40th wedding anniversary party last Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dick VanGundy. Girls employed by the Williamses at Torrey Pines were the hostesses, along with Mrs. VanGundy.

• A ribbon cutting and tree dedication was held Sunday, May 2, at the new group home in Tarkio. Pastor Rich Pearson was a guest speaker.
• A modular post office building was moved to Westboro, Missouri, April 29. The 16’x46’ unit was put on land which was owned by Mather & Sons Construction, who gave the land to the city of Westboro. The postal service will lease the lot from the city. The old post office will be given to the City of Westboro to be used as a city hall.
• Doris Ann Schmidt of Tarkio is working to become a Master Gardener. She needs 30 hours of community service and has volunteered to be “in charge” of the landscape boxes around the trees on Main Street. The flowers for the boxes will be donated by Blake and Julie Hurst of Hurst Greenery, Westboro.
• Cassie Riley of Tarkio placed second in the Missouri Dental Association’s Children’s Dental Health Month Poster Contest. Cassie received a $150 gift certificate to Wal-Mart and a $100 savings bond from MDA.
• Eight records were broken at Tarkio’s Indian Relays held Saturday, May 1. Tarkio’s Alex Baruth set a new record in the junior high girls’ 1600 meter run with a time of 5:53.06. Tarkio’s Nate Defenbaugh set a new mark in the high school boys’ high jump with a height of 6’5 1/4”. Rock Port’s Trent Corken set a new high school boys’ 1600 meter run time of 4:39.07. The other records were broken by Worth County and Jefferson competitors.
