May 20, 1949

• Buddy Reger, famous rodeo clown and comedian, will produce many merry moments with his educated mule at the upcoming 4-State Roundup in Fairfax. Spud Richardson, another clown, is also coming. The American Legion has booked the Gust Karras carnival, which will provide five rides, including a giant merry-go-round, which claims to be the largest transportable one in the world.

• Most of the rooms on the second floor of the hospital building have been given the finishing coat of plaster and it won’t be long until they are ready for equipment.

• Fairfax Kiwanians will celebrate the third anniversary of the founding of their club with a dinner on Friday evening, May 27, in the dining room of the Presbyterian Church. Frank Grube, Ph.D., head of the English department of the Maryville State Teachers College, will be the guest speaker. The local club now has a membership of 50.

• Elbert Farley has purchased the property known as the Lee Adamson place in southeast Fairfax and he and his wife will move to the place as soon as they get possession.

May 23, 1974

• No one was injured in a pileup three and one half miles south of Fairfax Friday on U.S. Hwy. 59. A semi-trailer truck was passing a car pulling a boat when the car went into the semi’s lane. Both vehicles skidded and the semi-trailer jackknifed and would have upset, had the boat trailer not served as a support. The car and boat came to rest imbedded in the ditch under the front of the trailer.

• The Fairfax R-3 Alumni Banquet had 397 attendees at the event titled “Year of the Iron Horse.” The theme included engineer and hobo garb worn by the Class of 1974 initiates. Six members of the 50 year honor class were present, including Lulu Jones Harmon, Mary Thompson Poe, Evelyn Poe Brannum, Esther Peoples, Anna Mary Massingill Bullerdick, and Josephine Hedrick Jones, as well as a former teacher, Virginia McMahon.

• The new steel building at the north limits of Fairfax will open soon as The Factory Store, handling various types of walnut gift items. Owners are Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Kincannon and Jerry, who also operate The Walnut Shop in Fairfax.   

May 20, 1999

• The volunteers of Community Hospital Association, Fairfax were recognized on Friday, May 14. They include Elizabeth Jones, Phyllis Bradfield, JoAn Whittington, Matt Straub, Toni Ray, Becky Hrabik, Wayne Bradfield, Morris Ray, Krystal Hull, and Don and Carol Jagger.

• Fairfax Bible School was held May 10, 12, and 14 in the afternoon following school. This was a new experiment this year and was very successful.

• Don Burke of Fairfax was pictured leveling off Community Hospital’s new parking lot.

• The Fairfax Park Board has purchased a new mower. Medsker from Graham, Missouri, had the lowest bid.

• The Fairfax City Council is still looking into different options for getting a police officer in Fairfax. As of the year 2000, an elected marshal will not be recognized in the state of Missouri and so the city will have this ordinance on the ballot in November of 1999 to do away with it. The city can, on the other hand, appoint a police officer without an election.
