• Dr. J. Franklin Waugh of Chicago visited his brother, Charles Waugh, east of Fairfax this week and attended the 50th anniversary celebration of the Tarkio College Class of 1899. Dr. Waugh is the only one in the class that is still active (the others are all retired). He was a student of Fairfax High School and was attending Fairfax school when the high school was established.
• Mrs. Mildred Taylor has sold her interest in the Blue Bell Cafe building and business to her partner, Mrs. Charles Wennihan, who is now the sole owner. The two had bought the business the latter part of March and have conducted it since.
• W. D. Burgess, superintendent of the Tarkio division of the Missouri Service Company, spoke to the Fairfax Kiwanis Club at its Tuesday meeting and presented a plan for better lighting of the Fairfax business district.
• The B.P. Hunter meat department is this week installing a 6×12 foot walk-in refrigerator, which will enable the store to handle its large meat business more satisfactorily and in a larger volume.

• Two Vacation Bible Schools are being conducted in Fairfax this week with a total of 125 students and 52 teachers and assistants. Baptist has 60 enrolled and the Presbyterian and Methodist churches have 65 enrolled in theirs.
• The 1974 Fairfax R-3 School Guardian yearbook was dedicated to Earle and Mary Louise Sims. They were presented with the honor, as well as a beautiful bouquet.
• Specials at Hunter’s Hy-Klas Food Store in Fairfax include: family-size 171 ounce package of Tide, $2.99; Texas cantaloupe, 2 large size for only 98¢; Hy-Klas bacon, 79¢ per pound; and Van Camp’s pork and beans, four 16-ounce cans for $1.

• The Fairfax Alumni Banquet “Celebrate the Centuries” was held Friday, May 21, at Fairfax High School. A total of 349 people were in attendance. The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Barry Simmons.
• Beth Graves of Fairfax and Pepe Cooper of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Fairfax, ran in the Flying Pig Marathon Sunday, May 9, in Cincinnati, Ohio. It took them four and a half hours to run the race. When asked why they decided to do it, Beth replied, “We talked each other into it and I did it just to say I did, and I will never do anything like that again.”
• Members of the Fairfax second grade class visited the Fairfax Forum office Tuesday, May 18, for career day.
• The 1999 Fairfax High School graduation was held Sunday, May 23, with 21 members earning their diplomas. Joshua Jay BeBout was valedictorian and Danielle Lynne Beck was salutatorian.
• The flowers inside the barrels on Main Street in Fairfax were torn out and destroyed by vandals Tuesday, May 25. The Atchison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
