• Tarkio Tarks vs. Rock Port baseball will be played at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29. Night baseball opens in Tarkio on Memorial Day with the newly lighted field at the Tarkio Community Park with the Tarkio Tarks vs. Craig.
• Grading of the new Tarkio College football field is now underway. The new gridiron is about 75 feet south of G.I. Village and runs east and west. The field used in the past had a nine foot drop in its playing distance from north to south.
• Tarkio’s downtown area was spruced up by clean-up week activities and was washed down and new yellow parking lines and sidewalk lanes were marked. With the new lines, enough clearance is allowed for drivers to open their doors without touching the cars parked alongside.
• The Tarkio Gun Club east of Tarkio on Highway 4 is fully equipped for night shooting with the installation of a new lighting system. The entire area north of the clubhouse will be illuminated with 6,000 watts at each trap. White rocks will be used for the night shooting.

• Streakers strike the city! Tarkio appears to be keeping up with the national trend, as law enforcement officers were kept busy Wednesday night tracking down a number of unclad youth of both sexes.
• The Rev. Roger V. Wreath has been assigned as pastor of the United Methodist Church.
• Tim Turnbull was elected Tarkio High School Student Body President and Tim Chandler was elected vice-president last week.
• Tarkio High School’s five highest ranking seniors are Joyce Elaine Lang, Shaun Raneece Smith, Debra Jo Martin, Julie Aeschliman, and Merri Lea Harrington. Fifty-one members of the Class of 1974 earned diplomas at the commencement ceremony held last Friday.
• Robert Tucker, head track coach of Tarkio College, was named N.A.I.A. District 16 Coach of the Year. In the past two years, the Owls have reigned as champions of District 16 and also the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Tarkio was also the 1974 Conference and District winners in the Indoor Track Championships.

• The Tarkio Community Garden Club has made the following selections for the May Yard of the Month: John and Dorthine Woolsey, 704 N. 7th; Jack and Doris Ann Schmidt, 1110 Elm; Mary McAdams, 702 Main; Owen and Nina Davenport, 405 Sycamore; Gary and Lana Davison, 905 Walnut; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peregrine, 910 Locust; and Park Place Group Home, 412 N. 7th.
• The Tarkio track state competitors all placed in the top 10 in their respective sports: Nate Defenbaugh won the high jump with a height of 6’3” and placed 6th in the triple jump with a distance of 40’9 1/2”; Dustin VanGundy placed 3rd in the high jump with a height of 6’; and Ambera Wennihan placed 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.66.
• Effective the close of business on Friday, May 21, the Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio is now merged with and into the Farmers State Bank of Cameron, Missouri. As a result of the merger, Farmers and Valley Bank is now Farmers State Bank.
• Editorial comment: “Our community has once again suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Florence McMillan. Doris Ann Schmidt honored Florence so nicely in her eulogy last week stating, ‘Yes, we are diminished by our loss of Florence, but how much blessed than diminished because of her life . . . Florence could have chosen the path to the big city to fame and fortune, but aren’t we fortunate and so enriched that she chose the path back to Tarkio. It has made all the difference.’”
