• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Return of Wildfire” with Richard Arlen and Mary Beth Hughes, “Return of the Badmen” with Randolph Scott and Robert Ryan, “That Wonderful Urge” with Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney, “You Can’t Take It With You” with Jimmy Stewart, and “Fort Apache” with Henry Fonda and John Wayne.
• Nine prizes were presented at the flower show sponsored by the Woman’s Club Saturday at the First National Bank in Tarkio. The prize for the best single rose was awarded to Rev. Fred Yehle.
• A large crowd attended Memorial Day services conducted at Home Cemetery Monday by Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199. Wallace Croy gave the Memorial Day address.
June 6, 1974
• Lee Slemp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Slemp of Tarkio, has enlisted in the Air Force for six years. A 1974 graduate of Tarkio High School, Lee will report to Lackland Air Force Base for six weeks of basic training before going to Keesler Air Force Base for further training.
• U Save Mart advertised the following: ladies’ casual canvas sneakers, $1.88 per pair; Century ice tea glasses in blue or gold, 77¢ for four; Coppertone tanning butter, 44¢ with coupon; and Gillette double edge super stainless blade, 57¢.
• Over 230 people attended this year’s Tarkio High School Alumni Banquet. Mary Leap was recognized as the honored guest. Mrs. Rachel Jones was the oldest alumnus present and Mrs. Margaret Eames was the one who traveled the farthest, La Lima, Honduras, Central America.
• The skating rink in Brown Gym at Tarkio College will be open to the public from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, or by special request.
• The First National Bank announced that it becomes the first bank in the area to affiliate with a holding company. Agreements were signed on Thursday of last week to exchange stock with Ameribanc, Inc., a bank holding company of St. Joseph. There will be no changes at First National.

• The Tarkio High School Alumni Banquet was held Saturday, May 29, with 222 attending. One of the special guests was Gertrude Gutridge Fowler of Monroe, Michigan, a member of the Class of 1925. She has been out of school for 74 years, but tries to attend the banquet every year.
• The Tarkio Community Garden Club has completed its tree planting project of replacing trees in local parks. Seventeen trees have been planted this year. The goal is to continue planting and replacing trees in Niedermeyer Park, the South City Park, and the North Polk Schoolhouse park.
• The NARAS Foundation, the association responsible for the Grammy Awards, has created a recognition program for outstanding high school music departments throughout the country. This year, Tarkio High School’s music department was selected as one of the 200 Grammy Signature Schools.
• Quality Auto Repair will hold an open house at its new location at 506 S. 10th Street in Tarkio with a ribbon cutting Wednesday, June 9.
• Ask Elsie Fae: “Missed writing an article two weeks in a row as I was fighting a sore throat, bad cold, and a cough. I sent for cough medicine, but they brought it in a bottle with one of those lids that only children under the age of three can open. Fortunately, I had a hammer and a chisel.”
• The new Avenue of Flags at Home Cemetery greeted people attending the Memorial Day Services in Tarkio and those visiting the graves of loved ones. Funds for the flags were raised through donations.
