Zachary Martin Higgins, son of Mark and Lois Higgins, was born March 9, 1997, in Fairfax, Missouri. He passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 27 years, two months, and two days, following a brain aneurysm.

The early part of Zachary’s life was spent in Tarkio, Missouri. He attended Tarkio Elementary School until he was seven years old and the family moved to Shenandoah, Iowa. Zachary graduated from Shenandoah High School with the class of 2016.

For the past year, Zachary had been working at the Depot Deli. He really enjoyed the relationships he built working there. He adored his daughter and loved her very much! He loved fast cars and loud music, but he was also very good with computers and was tech savvy. Zachary was considered a free bird and did it his way, however, he would have given the shirt off his back for his friends and family, and always put them first.

Preceding Zachary in death were: his paternal grandmother, Lois Eileen Higgins; paternal great-grandparents, Martin and Dorothy Hagedorn;  maternal great-grandparents, Jack and Shirley McCoy and John and Dorothy Strange; and uncle, John McCoy. He is survived by his daughter, Emery Sue Higgins, Shenandoah; his parents, Mark and Lois Higgins, Coin, Iowa; sister, Emily (Caleb) Vaill, Coin; nephew, Jack Johnson, Stanton, Iowa; nephew, Axel Johnson, Coin; nieces and nephews, Mia Marie, Phoenix Rose, and Casey Allen, all of Coin; grandmother, Kristie Higgins, Shenandoah; grandparents, Jay and Joannie McCoy, Rock Port; grandfather, Garry Higgins, Rippey, Iowa; and many cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Zachary were held Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Nishna Valley Funeral Home in Shenandoah with Rev. Jim Crapson officiating. Memorials in Zachary’s name were directed to the Higgins family. Professional services were under the direction of Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
