• Specials at the Rock Port Market include: California grated tuna fish, 6 ounce tin for 29¢; Soflin toilet tissue, 1,000 sheets in a roll, 3 rolls for 29¢ or 10 rolls for 95¢; minced ham, 35¢ per pound; Golden Bantam sweet corn, 11¢ per pound; Square Meal blackberries, No. 2 tin in syrup, 22¢ per tin or five tins for $1; and Stokely’s finest apricot preserves, 22¢.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre: “Grand Canyon Trail,” “Make Believe Ballroom,” “The Life of Riley,” and “The Secret of St. Ives.”
• What turned out to be a hefty transaction took place at the office of County Collector Nixon Thursday of last week when a taxpayer settled his obligation of a little more than $210 by handing Nixon 420 half-dollars. He added the final 13 cents by proffering another 50-cent piece. The silver weighed about 16 pounds.
• A picnic crowd of some 60 persons went to the Wm. Griffin farm home in North Atchison County Sunday evening for several hours of fun and refreshments. Ned Greenley was the host.
• A friend of ours has a new slant on vacations. He will start out in some direction in his car. At every major crossroads, he will stop and flip a coin to decide which way to go and head that way until the next crossroads.
• A group of FFA boys, their instructors, and some 40 veterans from this community went to Lathrop, Missouri, on Tuesday to spend the day inspecting a test plot and to listen to a speaker.

• Clark Ford-Mercury, Rock Port, won Ford Motor Company’s Distinguished Service Citation for outstanding service, efficiency, and customer relations.
• Mr. and Mrs. Mike Holley and son, Bobby Joe, moved to Rock Port this week where Mike will be associated with Stoner’s Bartholomew Drug Store as their new pharmacist and store manager.
• Bill Sillyman, 20, Harrisonville, Missouri, is now employed at Long’s Beauty Salon in Rock Port. Sillyman attended Harrisonville cosmetology school and has worked in Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri.
• Ron Gayler spent the past week visiting his son, Randy, and parents and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gayler and Larry. Ron, employed by Petroleum Helicopters, Inc., Lafayette, Louisiana, left Tuesday for Dharan, Saudi Arabia, where he will be working with offshore oil drilling.

• The Aid Association for Lutherans collected checks totalling $2,056 for the after school homework club.
• Two hundred plus enjoyed cookies, tea, coffee, and lunch courtesy of Rock Port Telephone and Northwest Missouri Cellular at the Customer Appreciation Day Friday, June 4.
• The Rock Port Garden Club has selected Charles and Iva Vaught’s beautiful yard as Yard of the Month. The Vaughts live at 205 East Calhoun.
• The Rock Port Pool opened its doors on Friday, June 4. The manager this year is Beth Graves and assistant manager is Kari Beth McMahon. There are seven lifeguards.
